V.A.T. Increase

Postby marky No.1 » Mon Nov 15, 2010 12:31 pm

Hereford are increasing their ticket prices in January by £1 to cover costs. On a £15 ticket the increase to 20% VAT should really be £15.38p

This will happen in lots of shops etc. no doubt. At least we go to Hereford before January!

If every Club increases each match by £1 because of a "38p" increase there will be a few more fans not turning up.

What will M.F.C. do I wonder?

It certainly makes season tickets worthwhile. So some 'beat the VAT increase' Half-Season tickets would be a good pressie this Christmas for the money-concious amongst us!

If you have a business and want help on VAT, go and see an accountant! They will be able to walk you through the process and stop you losing money through the VAT increase!

Should be 32p

Current £15 (inc vat at 17.5%) = £12.77 ex Vat

£12.77 plus VAT at 20% = £15.32

Robbing gits!

Yep sorry  Hereford are making the point that they didn't increase the prices when it went up from 15% to 17.5%. The £1 shops will be in dilemma again

Only a non-VAT base of £12.77 would produce an actual cost of £15. £12.76+VAT = £14.99 (rounded down from 14.993) and £12.78+VAT = £15.02 (rounded up from 15.0165).

£12.77+VAT = 15.00475.

£12.77 + VAT at the new rate is 15.324 i.e. £15.32

Concessions in Hereford are shafted the most, £12 to £13 when it should be £12.25. Upping it to £13 is an approximate VAT rate of 27%.

Time to point things out bluntly. '£12.77 Plus VAT' is purely the sale price to businesses that are VAT registered and so are able claim VAT back. The actual money given to the taxman by the seller (of a £15.32 ticket) will be £3.06, meaning that the seller will keep £12.26.

The price will go up by £1 to cover the tax increase AND so that it's a round number (for practicality)!

If you have a business and are in doubt, see a professional!

I am. You are totally wrong here. The current VAT on a £15 ticket is £2.23. The new VAT amount will be £2.55. VAT is not the % of the selling price. To get the price net of VAT you divide the selling price by 1 plus the % i.e. currently 1.175

The actual % of the selling price that is VAT is 14.89%. When the VAT rises to 20% it will be 16.67%

To maintain their net income they would have to increase ticket price to £15.32. If they keep the ticket price the same they lose 27p. Increasing to £16 the club gains 57p and the taxman gains a further 11p!

So you wouldn't mind paying £1 for a Mars bar because the shop keeper can't be arsed handling less than a pound? What a pathetic way to get some more revenue and completely inexcusable. Adding more than the VAT increase is a rip-off.

There's a pie and Bovril debate here from when the VAT went down but the prices didn't. Some Clubs actually reduced the admission charge instead of reducing the food.

Considering the financial instability at the moment there will be tough decisions being made as we speak.

You would laugh if Hereford has their ticket prices at £15.33. Pretty poor comparison. I expected better from you Brian.

Oh dear Sammy, you really haven't got a clue about me, have you? Laugh? I'd applaud them for being realistic and not screwing the fans. Watch the sparks fly if MFC make the same decision as Hereford.

If you really want to apply rounding rules to the nearest pound, there would be no increase. They're shafting the fans, as many other clubs are likely to do in January.

I agree, the club shouldn't make increase the prices at all. Doesn't really bother me as I have a season ticket.
