20mph O/T ?????

20mph O/T ?????

Postby glagys » Fri Nov 12, 2010 7:55 pm

just travelled along balmoral road and noticed all the 20mph signs about

i seem to remember it in the visitor a few weeks ago as being "a trial period" !!!!!!

but seems a lot of expense being spent on a trial period?? with all the cut backs etc

i don't think this is going to be a trial period!!!!!!!

so when is the proposed 20mph starting to be enforced ???????

just a little rant

sooner the better, this should be the limit in a lot of 30 zones, i think a bedding in period with a partial amnesty, ie, you get the fine but not the points, for a bedding in period, then maybe the stupid speedhumps could be done away with everywhere, that only benefit garages :!:

It'll be quicker to get round the west end on a bicycle!!
How are they going to find the manpower to enforce it?
If people disobey the 30mph speed limit now, why will they obey 20mph?

If disobeying it means doing 25 mph thats better than 35, anyway, it will not affect you, as you obviosly fly everywhere captain sparkle

I too have just driven down Balmoral Road on my way for the Friday night takeaway (it's the law !!) and have seen a Police Van pull in a car which was flying down Balmoral Road.
When it turned down Clevelands, the blues and twos came on !!!

Not if you get hit by a car doing 30 it isn't. For some reason, a lot of drivers think they are the persecuted few, the fact is that if you drive more than the law allows you will at some point be fined and get points. So instead of pointing fingers and asking if they have nothing better to do hows about abiding by the law?

If you had kids at West End, Sandylands or Heysham High you would be happy with the new limit.
The way people race down Balmoral and Regent Road is disgusting and I thought it was only a matter of time before someone was killed.

I also thought they where going to make Balmoral and Westminster one way?

Thinking about it, they will make a stack of money out of this!!(don't know if the money goes to the council or the poelice, though)
The 20mph starts just after the Globe arena, as you get towards the top of the railway bridge. The speed camera van usually waits just before the fixed camera on regent road, and catches people coming down the bridge. So it's 30mph up and 20mph down,
don't forget now!

I don't think that changing it to 20mph will make a huge amount of difference. If anything, in my opinion, it could make things worse. The people who fly down roads like these at 50 will still do so when it's quiet. However, when they get stuck behind someone sticking to the 20mph, they will just get worked up and possibly do something rash. Then you just have a ticking time-bomb for more accidents. It's catch 22 to be honest.

However, driving down a street with cars parked either side, I got blocked in by an old lady (about mid 70s) who couldn't reverse. We therefore had to reverse about 600yds back up the road to let her through. Absolutely unbelievable and can't believe these people are allowed to drive if they can't control a vehicle, surely that's just asking for accidents to happen?

Nobody is perfect, but I think there needs to be more checks on who is out on the road and how they are driving, whether it comes down to speeding or just being in control. How that could work is another matter!

I drove from the Globe over the bridge and down Regent Road yesterday and stayed dead on 20 mph, and guess what?
The queue that backed up behind me was about eight or nine cars, and I felt that they were all thinking: why is he going so slow, get a move on!!!!
