Like them or not, the tories have their own policies, that they can implement, courtesy of the low rent liberal weasles who have made it possible for them

Even the Student Unions have disowned the protesters who are using the fees issue as the catalyst to promote their own disruption agenda!

If ANY Governement of ANY colour was to give in to such tactics then we would be really in the poo!

Yep, Lib Dem voters can feel rightly let down. Whored out their parliamentary votes for a whif of power. Expect turncoats aplenty when the dust settles and they realise both them and the Tories are totally unelectable.

Always the same when the Tories are brought in to sort out the bloody mess left by Labour.
History repeats itself. Except in this case it's two parties saying Labour have made a ruddy great mess, over spending and over borrowing.

I noticed only weeks after the elections there were stalls in Lancaster protesting and drumming up trouble, where were they earlier in the year when it was tits up?

I have no respect for these politically motivated protests/protestors.

If you listen to the Vice Chancellor of Lancaster Uni he thinks increasing tution fees is a good idea and it needs to be done as do a lot of other Universities so it's going to happen, Oxford and Cambridge have already threatend to go to private if the higher rate of fee of 9k wasn't introduced. It was going to be a flat rate of £6k but to stop them going private the optional limit was put in.

If students put as much time into working as they do protesting then they might actually get somewhere instead of wasting 3 years of their life protesting about everything under the sun, if they actually paid some taxes then I might take them seriously.

A little earlier than I predicted, but....

"Post subject: Re: O/T - The Spending Cuts!Posted: Tue Sep 14, 2010 5:26 pm

And it'll all kick off again.

Probably not yet - it usually happens when everyone gets hot and bothered and out on the streets.

So, probably about June next year, starting in Liverpool and Manchester then spreading."
Is the glass half full or half empty? Mmmm? hard to say - but it does look like there's room for more beer!

That used to be our head office, so been there a few times. When the Tories moved in on the floor above Cameron popped down to 'introduce himself' as the new neighbour and from what I gathered, left a very good impression.

Practicaly every western government has borrowed a massive amount during this recession. The alternative was letting the banking system implode and causing a depression to make 1929 look like a mere economic footnote. Don't believe the rhetoric of the likes of George Osbourne. We weren't close to being like Greece for instance. Some of the cuts are necessary, everyone accepts that. Many of the cuts, such as the one causing this particular protest, are politically motivated by the larger of the two coalition parties. P/T Indie, of course the Vice Chancellor of Lancaster University thinks increasing fees is a good idea. His, along with every other university, is having state funding utterly slashed. Without increasing fees, many universities would simply go out of business. Make no mistake, VCs are only interested in the pound signs.

So from that Marky you are saying that the previous administration didn't borrow massive amounts of money until the country went into recession?

I don't believe you.
What was it Tony Bliar said when he came into power? We have 24 hrs to save the National Health service?
I'd be more likely to belive Mr Osbourne, as were many if not all of the world banks. Hence our ability to borrow money has improved.

Same old, same old, always the same.

George Osbourne will say whatever he has to to convince the public that the cuts he has set about enacting are necessary, whether or not it is actually true. He is, afterall, a career politician whom, like his boss, are very much from the Tony Blair school of spin and polish. The last government borrowed just like all governments before it did and all governments after it will continue to do so. The present government is actively encouraging local government to make more use of borrowing so it could hardly be claimed they are any different. Recessions are cyclical and are part of the capitalist system the world economy runs on. It would be total madness to blame the most recent incarnation on the government of the time. In private, George Osbourne will know things are nowhere near as bad as he suggests publically and he equally knows that he very likely would have acted in exactly the same manner as Alistair Darling.

Well the rioting probably ended after they probably realised that they had trains to catch !
Agreed that cuts are necessary right now or else we would have ended up like Greece and lost our national credit rating.
Just watch Ireland implode in the next few weeks, their economy is in a desperate mess right now.
Doubt very much if Euroland will bail them out though as they want to show other ' financial relegation candidates' such as Spain & Italy that they can also forget getting a massive bail-out too.
I predict stormy economic waters ahead
Also thought it was quite ironic timing today as Cameron delivers a reasonably good speech at Beijing Uni about our UK systems that this happens here. He even got questioned by their students about the tuition fee rises !
You could almost see them thinking - thanks but we'll stay as we are if you dont mind

Brilliant post Marky. Agree with every word. We're being sold a lie to promote ideological cuts. Tories I know are delighted that they've got free rein to do what they want and pass on the blame.

Labour actually cut borrowing from 42% to 37% from 1997 to 2001. Then investment tool it up to 42% by 2005. Still less than Thatcher had by 1983. Yet the bank bailouts sent these figured into orbit from 2008.

I'd be more likely to belive Mr Osbourne, as were many if not all of the world banks. Hence our ability to borrow money has improved.

Urban myth. Our borrowings as a proportion of GDP are a fraction of those in Ireland, Greece, Portugal and Spain. Every government bond issue since 2008 has been oversubscribed and our credit rating has never fallen from the highest level AAA. Our borrowing costs are still near base or less than 1%, meanwhile Ireland is having to pay over 8%.

Tory lies.

When will everyone realise , the country is on its knees financially. From Government down to small business.

Something needs to be done and we all need to tighten our belts.

Students have had it too good for too long. The average yearly fee at US universities is 30K !! The family starts saving for it at an early age, why can`t we do that?

Funded education should stop at secondary level , anything after that should be paid for by the individual or sponsored by business.

If people are so smart , then start the debate by where else can we find the money, not smashing up buildings that only costs the tax payer more money!!
