Oh my, how poor for a local newspaper. I bet they are embarrassed. No-one can do their job properly anywhere.

More likely mention Carl Baker playing against his old club!

The web site is no better...

On the Isle of Man TT page is a report of McGuinness at Oulton Park! and nothing else.

I must admit, I do still look forward to The Vis coming out on Tuesday night. First thing I do is to scan the "Hatched, Matched and Dispatched". (aka Births, Marriages and Deaths)

But, I am old enough (unfortunately) to remember when The Visitor was a "2 sectioned" paper (think it was called Visitor 1 and Visitor 2?) and was of broadsheet size.

Aye, John used to report on Shrimps games, as did Harry Kite and then Ken Andrew (who went on to national press and then TV presenting in the south east).

Harry Kite once wrote a report critical of something at the club and was banned from the ground. The old editor, Derek Mosey, defending Harry's right to report the bad as well as the good from the club, said "You ban my reporter, you ban my paper!" and vowed not to print another word about the club until they lifted the ban and apologised -which they did.

Frank Bastow was one of the old Vis photographers, followed by people like Bob Adshead and Tony North.

Queston to you Mr Shrimper.
How can it be possible to make such a big mistake on the front page?

maybe it's a genuine editorial mistake, after all the new guy has been away for a while, maybe it's because the sports team are..well.. a bit limited in numbers, or maybe (and I'm hoping this isn't true) that quinny has had some form of nasty premonition. or maybe it isn't the paper's fault at all and the promotion came direct from the club and was merely copy and pasted by the display team.

Just a thought like, but if they stopped writing jack-a-nory fairytale stories about the Morecambe fans recent visit to Valley Parade maybe they would'nt make such a basic error as to confuse Southport with Stockport.

The article in the paper about the Bradford game was about a particular match steward rather than the Morecambe fans , a simlar article was also published in Bradford's local paper.

I am not referring to the incident with the steward, but the utter rubbish which is in this weeks visitor. The lady and her son hadn't even booked in advance, and had a steward pushing them around everywhere they needed to go, hardly the actions a club who's service was described as poor.

While Mr Shrimper may wish to answer, the simple answer is Johnstone Press who own many local papers and have systematically ripped the heart out of them handing reporting for local news to 'centres' and giving the work of multiple people to one individual. Quality has deteriorated and increased pressure brought to bear on those who are left behind. Very sad.

When I was a paper-boy I hated Wednesdays when my round practically doubled and it felt like a third of the houses in Morecambe would have a copy of The Visitor.
