Totally agree with the comments regarding the need for someone with pace up front.Yet another defender :? :?  Might work if we could play 6 6 1(without the ref counting) :!: :!:

Interesting signing.

Not sure how this is going to improve our shot shy forward line of 1. Surely Sammy is thinking of bringing in an experienced forward on loan as well? Nobody, apart from Fleming, has shown much sign of scoring goals, and without goals we are going down.

Says he's a left back

Could cover for Wilson. How long is he suspended for?

Kenny was not an international player, I believe he went from us to southport on a free, then back to japan where he quit football to become a white collar worker, anyone :?:

Our internationals included Ryan McGivern, Terry McFlynn and Alan Kennedy.

The loan target was Gavin Williams I understand.

Sammy's keeping tinkering. Wonder when the budget runs out? Obviously seven signings in the summer and now Scott Brown wasn't enough.

Interesting signing Leeds don't seem to rate him but looking at his record he has some good experience so time will tell.

And Ray Charnley, of course.

I didn't include him because he hadn't been capped but forgot he came back at the end of his career.

It's a decent signing by Sammy (in terms of quality) but as some have mentioned, perhaps this isn't the area we need to strengthen the most. The logical thing would be to play him at left-back in the current formation or go to the 5-3-2 for saturday like when we had McGivern (although is Wilson suspended???):

------------------------ROCHE-------------------------

------------HAINING---MCCREADY---CAPALDI---------
PARRISH--------------------------------------WILSON

------------SHUKER---FLEMING---BROWN----------

------------------DUFFY-------------------------------
---------------------------MULLIN---------------------

Who knows???

I just hope that Sammy isn't being stubborn and trying to 'prove' that his formations work and that he knows best... because we DO trust him and his methods, even if it takes a bit of time and tweaking!

Now, I wasn't there, but the trialist in question was Tony Capaldi, formally of Cardiff and Plymouth.

It looks like it should be tied up in time for the weekend and would be a permanent (but perhaps short term like Brown) deal.

Sammy interview in full is just downloading now, I'll post it shortly.

Btw, Jevons is definately out on Saturday - still has a massive bruise on his face.

Capaldi played the first 45 at right back. He left the ground sooner into the second half. Not sure if Sammy was there but the lad looked OK but difficult to judge v Tranmere Res.

Capaldi played the first 45 minutes at Kendal, v Tranmere res at left back, Niall Cowperthwaite was the right back and captain for the evening.

To my mind he is a left back specialist (played the majority of his career there) with a very long throw. He looked very composed and did everything needed of him with very little fuss.

Wilson is a favourite of mine but I don't believe we have seen the best of him so far this season, nothing wrong with competition for places and having a full international in and around the training ground and stadium, if only for 4 months, will only be a positive.

Agree 100% I remember watching Wilson on fire last season at the start of it.

I remember the fans also cheering Adams pace vs Darlington and the away fans cheering also for him.

But I do not know how he has started ths season but he is a quick and strong left back and likes to get forward

What a bag of crock Cardiff were at the crossbar but it did look a tad windy and at least our new lad has a good foot on him :)

We've got an excellent forward, he just can't play on his own up front and needs to feed off someone next to him. Mullin & Jevons partnership worked well last season, this season they only played together for the last few minutes of a game when we're already behind and Jevons has run himself in to the ground. We could sign fifteen forwards, but if they only played one at a time, we're still going to struggle.

Let's go back to playing two up front and trying to win games confidently rather than the priority being keeping a clean sheet.
