Russ Perkins it was Aspers.

As I remember the (apocryphal?) story goes that Russ used to live & work in London during the week and Morecambe occasionally used to fly him home to play at Crusty on a Saturday then back again following. And the club used to own a couple of houses where he and other players stayed.

Halcyon days indeed.

Anyhooo,

GK Joe Lewis

RB Wee man Burnsy
CB Jeff Street (Six foot two, eyes of blue..........)
CB Jim Bentley
LB Bob Bennett and his sideburns

RM Thommo
CM Bob Baldwin
CM Brian Healy
LM Ian Cain

F Jonny Norman
F Justin Jackson

Subs Lance Millard
Kenny Gordon
Drummy (Healys apprentice?)
Tony Webber
Jonny Coleman football genius.

No starting place for Coley as the Jonny Norman/ Jacko pairing up front were the best I have ever seen in a Shrimps shirt.
Bob Baldwin would apply the midfield bite and Healy would supply the killer ball.

No places in the matchday team but also in the squad would be Arnold Timmins (the original baby faced executioner btw all you Mancs!), Frank Towers, Mark Shirley, Dulla, Robbie Armstrong.

I know wht you are thinking though, "Why No Peter King"?

When we move into the new ground in 2010 we'll be 90 years old. What about setting up a Morecambe FC hall of fame with votes from fans. Maybe even a player of the decade for each of the first 9. People will naturally vote for the players they've seen in the flesh, but we need to give an opportunity for tribute to be payed to those that started all of this off those many years ago.

what do you think?

Indeed it was Russ Perkins.

He could've scored on a Monday at the Diamond Horseshoe.

I was just about to take exception punkisdead when I realised I had put Alan Thompson instead of Taylor as my 1st sub.
A typo from me apologies.I meant Alan Taylor.
Gerry irvine is a legend of a man in my eyes.
He coached me as a junior, brilliant footballing brain and 1 of the most generous honourable men I know. Top man Gerry.
Why did I not include him?. Don't know.

Peter McDonnell best ever responce to a Hednesford Town Fan "Keeper your a wanker" in which he replied " Yes but a winning Wanker". I think we won 3-1.
