Crawley at it again

Crawley at it again

Postby forces shrimp » Wed Sep 01, 2010 11:36 am

Crawley Town have smashed the Blue Square bet premier transfer record by signing Richard Brodie from York City for £300k. After alot of interest from clubs in higher leagues i think they have got a top striker proven at that level and should go on to promotion looking at the rest of the team aswell

Crawley Town wow what a smashing players with Brodie.

Crawley will cruise and win the conference on paper but I do think Grimsby will win this league could be wrong.

I remember Charlton were linked with Brodie only offering 200k but .

300K wow I think this team could get a promotion but this team signed Torres from Peterboro?

I dunno how a conference can spent this cash.

Exciting times if your a Crawly fan

Who remembers Hornchurch? It will go tits up, it always does. We'll get Crawley fans shaking buckets at us when it goes wrong, yet I wonder how many are questioning all of this lavish spending? £300k on one player at that level is unbelievable!

300k is a alot of cash now.

In League Two also I wonder how much Morecambe spent on Fleming as a example

And mate, Crawley have had serious financial problems fairly recently too.

Was it the Mahmood brothers who took them to the brink of bankruptcy ?

It was the Majeed brothers. Basically they owned a few nightclubs, had Ferraris and throught they could rule the world. That included employing their bouncers in Crawley's club house who took it upon themselves to rough a few of us up on a visit there. They never had the money to sustain a football club.

Bruce Winfield, who together with his wife, are throwing the money at Crawley are a different kettle of fish altogether. Winfield is a director of over 50 companies and the Finance Director of Media Square http://www.mediasquare.co.uk/pages/65/The+Board.stm, who've got a turnover exceeding £100 million. He's also sold a few companies. Given he's a financial man he should know what he's doing. I can't see it going tits up unless he gets bored and that might happen if he doesn't buy the league.

P.S. This deal breaks the record for a transfer fee between two non-league clubs, which was of course held by Justin Jackson between Morecambe and Ru$hden £ Diamonds. Another club with a big backer who lost sight of his business and then pulled the plug.

The details on the deal ! Lifted from elsewhere ...... !

Crawley Town have signed York City's Richard Brodie for GBP275,000, the deal was
done three before minutes before the transfer window closed, Brodie spent time
on loan with Barrow during the 2008-09 season. Why did York sell him, apart from
the money on offer of course, which is a new record for the Blue Square Premier,
it turns out Brodie had already turned down the offer of a new contract two
months ago, and the official York City website reports: "Richard Brodie was out
of contract at the end of the season and would have been able to leave then for
free. The club did not want a similar situation to Clayton Donaldson whereby he
was 23 and left to play in Scotland for free. This time the club had to let the
player leave and accept a fee, bearing in mind that the player had asked to go."

Good business then.

Dean Howell is at Crawley and plays at left back these days, apparently. I always liked him and his silver boots.

I remember a work colleague of mine saying to me once when we were looking at boots in JJB, "you've got to be good to wear luminous different coloured boots to the norm."

Never a truer word said. Something Howell is obviously oblivious to !!
