Transport to games from the York

Transport to games from the York

Postby sgt major » Thu Aug 05, 2010 8:30 am

We have managed to secure the services of the Morecambe Heritage Bus Company to ferry fans to the Globe from the York Hotel on Match days. Obviously the walk to the ground is only 12 mins but some would prefer the ride. I personally think this will be a first for many years as we haven't had "Football Specials" for a long time.

The first run will be on Tuesday Night for the Coventry game and therefore every home game.

I envisage the cost will be £1 and I'm in discussions about a return run after the match, great for folk that live up this side of town.

Any fans that live up in Heysham for example could get in touch and if there is enough requirement we may do a run from there early doors to get folk up to here.

Watch this space for match day beer promotions coming soon.

Great idea as there is no bus route that way at the moment.

I can never understand why the Morecambe - Westgate bus does not do a circular lap up westagate then down Lancaster Rd instead of getting to the co-op turning round and going back the way it came down regent Rd.

Our bus will initially use the route that takes you over the bridge to Euston Grove - then over West End Bridge and turning left down Acre Moss. At the bottom it will turn left onto Regent Road and on to the Globe.

Just been in a meeting with Dave Lord who runs the bus and we are treating the first two games as a trial run before deciding to expand the route to take in other areas, he did say however he would be willing to run a bus to Heysham after the game from the York as that is where he parks it up.

He will be running the bus back after the game to the York as well.

As you'll be charging, you best check if it needs to be registered with VOSA....

There's always someone who tries to throw a spanner in the works - Dave indeed is licenced and I personally wont be taking a penny from the bus - just sorting out a public service. No wonder the town is in a crap state with doom mongers round every corner.

Just a polite suggestion. I wasn't alluding to the company, but the individual service. It may need to be registered with VOSA or it may not. I mean, seriously, how do you go from what I said to comments about the area in general?

TBH - I have had a lot of folk just waiting for us to fail here (There is a slight fickleness in the town - our team know that). I wouldn't have gone into a venture with a fellow local business person without covering every base.

I join those who hope this is a success, and if the 'bus comes down Acre Moss wouldn't say no to hopping on on wet days and 'donating!' full fare :?: :) :)

Rather than a nominal charge I did think if Sgt Major provided transport, it would be an over-the-bar voucher system.

Great idea Mick. Good point by Gnasher too, maybe if you spend a certain amount before the game you get a coach voucher.

Dave who runs the bus is fully licenced and there will be a conductor on board to take the fare. These first two games are going to be a trial and then we can put together a full operating schedule for the rest of the season.

All we need now is the inspector off "On the Buses" ( errrrrrr....I Hate you Butler!!!!)

Great idea people near the old ground can go and have drink in a propper local and get a lift in a bit of british heritage into the bargain , to watch their beloved football club . I say people should back it. :D :D

Something to do with the board attachment quota being filled.
