Talking of Cobblers there is a Club Statement on their message board :o

This is from Northampton Town Football Club.

"On the whole we like and appreciate the value of this message board. We can find out what fans are happy/unhappy about, and what issues are currently important to our supporters.

We also appreciate that criticism is part and parcel of the football industry. We have no issue with that. Fans will have their opinions on who is doing a good or bad job, and their own opinions on players, manager, staff and Chairman. We fully accept criticism and the opinions of supporters. That is the heart and soul of any message board.

However, when those opinions turn into accusations, in our opinion a line is crossed.

Despite the Chairman doing the in depth Q&A session on this messageboard last year, a few posters seem to have forgotten most of the facts laid out in those answers and we simply can't keep allowing accusations, untruths and lies that are harmful to the club to be posted in the public domain.

No one has any problem with the truth, but the untrue accusations have and are continuing to cause the club harm (although no doubt the posters who make those claims will not see it).

If any poster wants to post accusations against the club, our Chairman, Directors, personnel or employees in the future then please ensure you are fully able to back up your accusations with the necessary evidence in a court of law.

Our solicitors will be asking the administrators of this board for contact details of 2 posters from the 'sinking ship' thread and we do intend to take legal action against them.

This is a fans message board and we have no intention of intervening again but we will take action again without warning should the practice of posting false allegations against the club, our Chairman, Directors, personnel or employees continue.

The club apologies for having to take this action but lies and malicious gossip on a public message board will not be tolerated because of the damage it can cause to our business and our integrity.

In the meantime, and without prejudice to the legal action we will be taking, the club is offering the posters called Manwork, Random and anyone else the chance to meet, email or call us to discuss the issues they have and to try and inform them of the issues we face. There are obviously a number of misunderstandings that need to be addressed.

No questions are off limits, no topic cannot be discussed and we will answer all questions openly and fully. The club will not post on the board again, only to update all users every 30 days to say if anyone has been in touch and has met with us.

The contact details for any poster who wishes to meet with us are 01604 683777, gareth.willsher@ntfc.tv or Gareth Willsher, Head of Media, Northampton Town Football Club, Sixfields Stadium, Northampton, NN5 5QA. Once we hear from any interested poster we can arrange a mutually convenient date and time. Please note that with staff movements email is our preferred method of communication.

We look forward to reading the opinions of supporters on a range of issues on this messageboard in the future, but we will continue to act robustly where untrue accusations that damage the club and our personnel are posted in the public domain.

Thank you for reading this message and for your support.

Northampton Town Football Club"

So watch out!

Did he run large rings round us by any chance, Sean or are you confusing Shrimps with Shrimpers

Really pleased about Fleming, as I've already said. Slightly stunned though about Chris McCready.

We let Dave Artell go because we only offered him a one-year deal, partly in the knowledge we were going to sign Sharpes of Rotherham who then promptly went to Shrewsbury.

So we let go a 29 year-old defender who captained us on our best ever Football League winning run and run of clean sheets; who banged in 9 goals last season; who watches opposition teams and feeds the info into the club; and is a real leader on the pitch and dressing room.

Instead we sign a 29 year-old central defender on a TWO-YEAR deal (no doubt with signing on fee, which wouldn't be paid to Arts), who was released by his last three clubs, has played 150 games in 10 years and scored 5 career goals, and has had recent injuries. I'll be kind to Sammy and say he'd better be a bloody good defender.

He didn't say he wasn't happy, just that he couldn't see the logic in not giving 29 yr old Artell a 2 yr contract , when he's just given McCreedy one. Contract i mean. ;)

Quote from a Tranmere fan:

"you signed him? He is solid, nothing outstanding but can do a job. Came to us on loan again last season and did not look too out of place until he got injured. Should be a good signing, honest as the day is long."

It wasn't reported. I was told by several including an agent.

As for my concerns about McCready this hasn't filled me with optimism.

I've made no secret of my belief that Fleming was an absolute must in terms of incoming players this summer so I'm delighted he's finally joined us. Whether or not he'll get a chance straight away is up for debate but, unlike Baker and Duffy, he's not maing quite as big a jump so I have no doubt he'll do a good job if given the opportunity. McGready I'm not so sure about. Certainly one I shall reserve judgement on. However, I can never understand why a few folk put Artell on such a high pedastal. He was rather too prone to making mistakes and I don't really care how many goals he scored given he was in the side as a defender. He certainly rarely had a good game in any matches I saw and reports I got from every home game were hardly complimentary. Only time will tell. It's clear he wasn't first choice and it's also possible he wasn't second or third. As for our starting line up, I'm actually starting to think that Haining will be the player who doesn't make the team against Wycombe. With Fleming, Stanley, Drummond and Hunter all vying for the two places available, if anything Scott will play in central defence. I think Roche, Parrish, Scott, McGready, Wilson, Duffy, Rundle and Jevons are virtual certainties. Who gets the remaining 3 places will be interesting.
Some are dead and some are living. In my life, I've loved them all.

Football is all about opinions and as you say it will be interesting to see the layout of the "new" team particularly after tonight run out. As you say there are now quite a few players in competition for just a few places. Still don't agree with you about Moose tho, although I never put him on a pedastel he would.always.have a place in the "old" team for me. Hopefully he wouldn't get in the new one

Find it hard to understand the logic of giving our new lad a 2 year contract when we wouldn't give one to Arts. Certainly not the most cultured of players, but at least with Arts you knew exactly what you were getting including an appreciable number of goals per season.

Strange, but then again this close season has been very strange in a number of areas.

Maybe Sammy thought that our defensive problems of last season could be put down, in part, to Arts?

Amen to that! The sooner we get the Coventry game played, the better!

I think it's unfair to say our defensive problems lay on the shoulders of one man. I think he did the best he could and I will always be grateful to Dave for his time at the club.

How about you look at the situation this way:

McCready was playing League One football last season at Tranmere. So, if we were to progress this season and get promotion, McCready would still be in the frame for a first team place. However, I don't think Artell would have been. Therefore, offer Arts a 1year deal, with him then being able to find a move to a L2 club if we got promoted, or sign a player with higher level experience who can contribute should we be lucky enough to go up a league.

I just think it was logical thinking about a team that has come on a lot in the last few years and is still looking to progress!
