Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that mean that this stuff is actually being recycled? I was under the impression that recycling stuff was in order to save natural resources, not cut down on greenhouse gases - the two things are unrelated.

Plenty of recycling done in this country in particular in the paper industry. The move to water based inks has helped prior to this the recycling of printed matter caused environmental problems and to get a top quality recycled product was an expensive operation.
A German company "Palm" have recently started a machine in Nolfolk making news print from 100% recycled fibre.http://www.palmpaper.co.uk/
This mill along with other recycling Mills are subject to serious environmental constraints with regard to waste and will burn all the waste from the process to provide "Heat and Power" for the new plant. But we do also export loads of printed matter to China and the far east, this is usually crap waste that would as I mentiond cost a fortune to recover, I guess the environment is not to special to the China Man.

Fantastic news. We're now selling our recycled items to countries whih helps keep down the natural resources that would normally be used in the manufacture of items we buy. It's nothing to do with Global Warming, but limiting our use of natural resources to ensure sustainability in the long term.

Coal Fired Power stations - they, unfortunately, are needed to replace ageing and decommissioned power stations to meet the countries electricity needs. The last administration shelved Nuclear power until the last term when they suddenly realised it was actually the most affordable of the cleanest power generations and thus we're looking at a wrath of new Nuclear power plants. They take time to build though so in the interim Clean Coal power generation is needed as a stop gap. Overall the effects on Global Warming (CO2 reduction) in the long term by the planned increase in Nuclear power generation gives a positive reduction in CO2 levels, thus helping reduce the effects of global warming.
