Globe new pics

Postby Mike W. » Tue Jun 29, 2010 12:37 pm

After our great hols in Poland (beer FAR better than what we have to put up with back home, sorry), we are back and there are now new photos on the New Ground web site taken yesterday.

The thick grass is like a cosy winter coat - patchiness virtually all gone - and is getting its first cuts. Crush barriers are almost all fitted in the end stands (presumably needing painting), there is lots of first layers of tarmac on the roads and car parks, lamp posts going up on the roads, and the floodlights posts are up - they need the lighting heads fitting and then wiring. All sorts of stuff inside the Main Stand - bogs as far as you can see (!) - Amazing range of equipment being put in - fridges, water boilers, bar fittings, strange tanks in the depths of the Stand - the outside sports court areas getting tarmacced, with lights going up there - and turnstiles being built for all stands.

The air system has more tubes than London Underground !

We understand the Main Stand seating may start going in during this week.

Good to have you back Mike with another set of superb pics.

Pic 62 shows a patchwork quilt of brickwork on the North Terrace which seems strangely out of place when you look at all the other superb brickwork throughout the Stadium.

Wonder if it's because the North Stand as built has only a limited life expectancy before the club can make use of grants that will be available to the Community aspect of our club, at which time the North Side will undergo a major refurb and then be in keeping with the rest of its surroundings?

Still looks as though there is a lot to do PLUS a Safety Certificate to be given.

23 days to go to the fans having their first look.

They've started putting seats in the main stand today. The ones I can see from Needham Ave are all white! I thought they would all be red whith MFC or something spelled out in another colour.

Maybe they're putting the MFC ones in first?

It must be my screen but I couldn't quite make that out. Anyway, should they really be using them before they've been properly plumbed in?

Don't worry too much over that one. As it is new build and the relevant safety elfs have never been far away they know it has been built to standard. They won't need a "safety" game to get the certificate 8-)

Bit of a random thought, but where will the PA & Match Day commentary box/room be located?
