New Coach required?

New Coach required?

Postby Christies Child » Sat May 29, 2010 5:37 pm

A serious question for discussion.

Is it time for Sammy and Mark to be given a helping hand in the coaching area?

Maybe some of our defensive problems could be resolved by the appointment of a Defensive minded coach to assist our excellent management team in that area. Possibly a role that Jimbo could take on as he develops his coaching skills for his future career in Management?

would rather wage money be spent on bringing in better players tbh. I think we just need to get another good experienced centre-half in who still has that pace in the legs, so we can deal with these teams that like to hit defences on the break.

would be interesting to see what a defensive coach would add to the team though. Jimbo must be getting more experience with the reserves next year, so he'll be adding his defensive knowledge there.

Sorry Mark, but I find that a bit harsh.

The fella was not disrespectful, he was merely opening a debate on whether the team may improve with a specialist defensive coach.
If we didn't have goalkeeping coaches, would you react in this way if he asked about a goal keeping coach?

For the record I would like (the club) to be in a position to have a specialist defensive coach, not being one who knows anywhere near as much as Sammy and Mark have forgotten, I'll leave it up to them.
Who knows maybe the goalkeeping coach also incorporate defensive duties. It would be understandable given the defence and goalkeeper need to work as a unit within the team.

Would love to see it, but very much doubt it. New SKY Team is not that strong to give him the support and help / protection he will need in the mountains.

Too many cooks spoil the broth CC, from the games i have seen this season our main problem is the amount of time and space we give the opposition to run at our defence . Paul Scholes on loan for a season would rectify that problem. ;)

I have to agree. I think we should get a new coach, sammy and mark were both attack minded players a definsive coach might not be such a bad idea to help us tighten it up at the back. :)

Perhaps we should be looking for an experienced defender? Perhaps one who has been around for a while and is now gaining coaching qualifications so would be looking to expand his experience? A player-coach type role? Someone the younger lads would look up to and respect?

Dunno where we'd find somone like that though?

Well I apologise if my "harsh" opinion was upsetting :?

We have just had our most successful season ever and this post appeared to me as a slur on the management as if they weren't up to the job. Most of our defensive problems IMO other than pace has been the attacking players losing the ball when the defenders are in forward position.

Maybe if the post was titled additional coach rather than NEW would have stopped me jumping in at the deep end.

I shall lie low now and post nice comments from now on like everyone else

That's how I read it as well, Marky. If Sammy and Mark thought they needed a defensive coach, they'd bring one in. To suggest they should (when they haven't) is tantamount to saying they're not doing their jobs properly.
And, after our (again) best ever finish in our entire history, I think that's out of order.

If my post had said 'an additional coach is needed' then i would agree with both Mark and Glen.

However, my post asked a question. It was not demanding that an additional coach should be brought in.

Take a look at other clubs in our league and you will see that the manager has a number of specialists to assist him.

Interestingly a number are actually in favour of additional help being given to our management team.
