Demolition

About 15 years ago they tore down the Villiers Hotel in Douglas. This had been one of the biggest hotels in the town. Every day, as the demolition progressed, there was a woman, probably in her late fifties just watching and quietly sobbing. I saw her standing on the pavement a few times myself, just dabbing her eyes. Turned out she'd worked there as a chamber maid while still at school, then full time when she left. She had her honeymoon there too. It had been 'her life' until the hotel closed.

I keep getting the image of her in my mind as I realise there are people feeling the same emotion today as they walk or drive up and see the place coming down. At least it will be quick.

Ground-Watch are watching you

This part of Morecambe is very popular and has been all day once the news got around
that the stand had fallen. I have never seen so many cameras and phones being stuck
through railings in my life. The fellows must have had understanding bosses.

You'd have thought 'someone' living close by, or with family living close by would have thought to set a web cam up???

I draw the line at having a webcam in my parents bedroom   I'll be there with camera assuming I get beck from 'ull early enough tomorrow, if there's anything left to see. I'll try and dig out my Wembley day photo which I took from the same window and put the two side by side.

What an emotional journey!

Yesterday, my brother and I were on the London Underground, going past where our original club Leytonstone Ilford (we started by supporting a merged club) used to play. He told me that everytime he goes past he still looks up to where the ground used to be, which is now a housing estate - I do exactly the same.

Wish I'd asked about the old crest on the North Stand as a reminder of the stadium.

To see it smashed like that is horrible!

Good luck at the weekend Suzanne. I had a look for you but didn't see you last Thursday.

Ground-watch;

  far toilet block still standing
near toilet block standing with no roof
west stand only has one third of its roof on.

So if anyone is (or would like to be) my 'friend' to view them, then please view them or request me as a friend etc.

Hi Mergey / Suzanne,

I still look back fondly on Bifmag.

As regards Leytonstone Ilford. I went to see a house on Ferndale Road in Leytonstone to rent a room and didn't like it as much as a house in Putney. However I missed my beloved Morecambe and moved into the house because I saw Leytonstone Avenue's ground at the end of the road on the A-Z. I moved in on a Friday and took a stroll down to the ground only to find the bulldozers at work flattening it. Today brought that back.
