Released List

Released List

Postby Morecambe Jack » Mon May 24, 2010 8:00 pm

Sammy has confirmed his released list: http://www.morecambefc.com/page/NewsDet ... 52,00.html

-Wayne Curtis
- Fraser McLachlan
- Aaron Taylor
- Matty Poole
- Ben Jackson
- Rory Winters

No suprises. Good luck to all of them, especially Wayne Curtis who I'm sure will be snapped up if he (however unlikely) doesn't go to Barrow.

I meant no suprises on that list obviously CC.

I doubt that is the last of the players to leave the club over coming weeks.

I don't think it means we're keeping those who've not yet got contracts namely Henry and Arts. I presume negotiations are on going but if nothing is resolved then they may be off.

cant see SM realising anymore there's 6 on that list + 2 more if you include Twiss & Adams = 8

and i think SM will only be looking to bring in 4/5 players in the summer after sorting out contracts with players who's deals are running out

I think if you're looking to bring in proven players then you're only talking about taking 5 big wages out so far - Twissy, Adams, Wayne, Fraser and Ian Craney. The others Jackson, Poole, Taylor and Winters, will have all been on small wages.

The management will be on the hunt for a centre back. If someone is found then others could be off.

I wish wayne and frazer all the luck in the world, they both deserve big thanks from us all, the release of the four younger players seems like an admission that we no longer even have a token youth policy, hopefully that will change when we move, good luck to the young lads.

Shame for Fraser, the club tried to give him time but he never quite found his influence/form since his first injury.
Looks like were going to have a smaller squad, hopefully with more quality instead of quality which is good. The new stadium may be a nice carrot to tempt some real quality, along with finishing 4th of course!

The following is my own personal opinion.
Once more we release young players who have had the temptation of a professional contract wafted in their faces and shown the door at the end of it because they are not good enough. Why do we bother. If there is nobody good enough at the development centre (because it is not or ever will be an academy) or in the 18`s then don`t give out a contract it is that simple. Our youth policy stinks, what incentive is there for young players in this area when they see lads released every season. Hold on, I know we must be training up Community Coaches rather than future stars and at this rate each school in the district will have at least 2 coaches that they could call their own.
If the club do not not get a grip on the youth aspect we will be a club of one team and that won`t keep us where we are or get us to where want to be. As someone who gives up a very large slice of his own time to coache kids it sickens me to see lads been shown the door after never even getting a fair chance. No wonder so many go to clubs out of this area and that is something else that I hate.
I cannot believe Taylor is on his way, it was bad enough when Bell was shown the door and then we give 2 contracts to players who were not anyway near as good as him. Aaron is and always will be a goal scorer and I am sure that is a quality that managers seem to want in strikers.
Dickie Danson and the rest must be churning inside, after all the time they put in with these lads and knowing that at the end of their time, all they will become is part of the community team if they hang around because lets face it Sammy will go out and buy or get on a loan someone in their late 20`s or early 30`s who will come in on a big wage, and will not be able to discover the touch they were supposed to have. I have felt like this since Sammy took on the job, he is only bothered about the 1st team and nothing else His recent interviews have been about him and how he has changed the club, for me he has and its not for the good. I know we have finished in our highest ever position, does not mean I have to like it though does it. New ground next season, but I will not be surprised if the new blood starts to drift away and go to Mysercough where they get a far better chance of making the grade, maybe Connerton was right to chose there, because he knew he would not get a sniff at Christie.

Well of course Sammy is only bothered about the first team. Thats why he is first team manager!

Its one thing running a youth system when your in the Conference or lower like Lancaster. Connerton was scoring goals for fun and I am sure Taylor would have scored equally as many as Connerton in that league.

In league 2 a young player has to be exceptional to break into the first team and I haven't seen any young players in the reserves that could cut it in league 2.

They were released because they wern't good enough, there's no point bringing the whole team down just to risk a couple of youth players. The players who came through the youth system that made it to the first team were good enough, thommo, hunter etc. Since them we havn't had any exceptional youth players.

Last close season much was made about the signing of Rory Winters from Oldham by Mark Lillis. He showed his potential for me in the pre season games...and then...nothing. No subs bench. Only the occasional apperance in the reserves due to the lack of games they play.

Then it was announced that 'to give the boy some experience' he was to be laoned out.

Kendal and Vauxhall Motors took him on and he was star man in a number of games for both clubs.

Now the guy has been released without even a chance from the bench to impress.

For me, we no longer have a Youth Policy and the predictions of a former manager who said that under Sammy it would vanish appear to have come true.

I always thought that a Youth Policy at any club was the bedrock for the future. Must have got that wrong as well!!!!!!

Speaking to Rory he says he thinks he's going to Kendal and he's also going to University. He's a nice lad and I wish him all the best.

What I'd say about the youth set up is that we do have one obviously, but as far as Sammy is concerned, he's judged on first team results, and first team results only. In the past, experienced players have done a job for him, so you can't really blame him for not fixing what isn't broke.

That said, one of the problems Morecambe have is competition. The very best young players in this district will be picked up by Premier League clubs at the ages of 8 or 9, and they are then developed at that club. They cherry pick hundreds, and only a very small number make the grade and a young player making his debut for a Premier League club could almost be due a testimonial nowadays!! But having all these young lads sort of corners the market doesn't it?

Name me one ex youth team player who has been released under Sammy's regime that has signed for another League Two team?

Can't think of any? Ok, how about naming me one of them that has gone on to sign for a Conference team? Strill struggling?

The answer is none, not only are these youngsters not good enough for our level they aren't even good enough for the level below! If they were you would have thought that someone would have signed them up but no one ever does.

I'm also not buying the argument that if they were given time in the first team they would end up being the required standard for League Two football. If this was the case then some of the other players would have improved their game after signing for their Conference North / Unibond clubs and made their way back up the pyramid with other clubs but they haven't.

Until I see evidence of us releasing players that go onto prove themselves at other League Two clubs then I think I'll keep faith with Sammy's judgement rather than bleating about not giving a load of sub standard players games in the first team at the expense of better ones.

this but then we see players like thommo playing in the Championship so even though most don't make it in full time football some still make it.

Well said. If there was obviously fantastic talent in the youth teams knocking at the door then fair enough but who are all these star players who are being left out? If someone slips through our net and succeeds in the football league then there's a debate to be had - but this is not the case.

People are just frustrated that talent from the local area is either not there or going to other clubs. Even if the latter is the case, I'm not convinced Sammy is the man to blame.
