Old football programmes

Has anyone had any dealings buying or selling old football programmes or know the best way to go about selling them.

On clearing out our loft i have found my box of old programmes the earliest being Celtic v Hibs 1948. Just qucikly checking an internet site i found 7 of the programmes i have being sold for a total of £89.

The oldest Morecambe one i have found so far is versus Lancaster on Boxing Day 1963

Ockers might be your best bet if you're unsure. As programme editor he has a great knowledge of programmes.

However, if you're looking for the maximum earnings from your programmes, it's probably worthwhile doing some research as some of your programmes might be worth a fair bit, and to the right buyer, might bring more than just some stall which may offer you a certain amount for a job lot hoping that there might be one or two diamonds in there.

If you have programmes dating back so early, I suspect these will be worth quite a bit, especially if there are no markings on them and they are intact and not folded.

You could also check eBay for the programmes you have and see if there is anything similar. Of course it might also be the fact that particular ones you have are quite rare, so make sure you don't sell yourself down the river and be tempted to let them all go cheaply.

Some programmes in good condition can go for hundreds of pounds. An original Man City v Gornik European cup winners cup final programme usually goes for nearly £500, so depending on what you have, you might be quids in.

Cheers Lance, i definitely think that research and finding the right buyer for them are the way to go rather than just selling the boxfull in one go. For instance when Preston got to the final in 1964 i have got programmes for the 6th round, semi final and final all in good condition which could perhaps be sold as a set to a PNE collector.

I have got 9 FA cup final programmes from 1955 onwards and these go for up to £30 each on the internet depending on condition. Amongst others that i thought might be worth a bit are England v Rest of the World 1963 (FA Centenary match) and some from the mid 1950's when Wolves first got floodlights and played a series of friendlies against foreign clubs.

Some like the Weymouth 3rd round tie and the 1974 FA Trophy final are in the 'Not for sale' section

The website http://www.footballprogrammes.com could be quite useful. They have lists of all cup final programmes and their values.
They also offer a valuation service but they do charge I'm afraid.

on Ebay you get more money if you sell them individually if you can be bothered, as i sold over a 100 Man United ones in a job lot because it was easier and got £60 with a local pick up with a guy from Bolton who i met at the holiday inn on caton road


oh and ive got one from 1985 FA CUP round? York City vs Morecambe i might sell it sensible offers only pm me if anybody is intrested, thats when Keith Houchen played for em the guy who then signed for Coventry City and scored one of the best FA Cup Final winner's ever against Tottenham
