Globe Arena - latest pics from yesterday

Postby Mike W. » Fri Mar 19, 2010 1:29 pm

New pics from Westgate now on the new stadium web site http://www.globearena.co.uk .

A lot going on - block walling all over the place, preparatory work for electrical wiring in the Main Stand and round the ground, roadways and car parking started - the pitch levelled and rolled - glazing in the Main Stand, and even a huge pit on the east side of the site, which we understand is part of the drainage system (the rain water drains through the piping into the pit which lets it get through to the sewer outflows gradually rather than in one mass rush, when there is a storm).

I have never been so excited about a building in my entire life. I drive past it on the way home from work, out of my way, just to see it again. The guys doing the buildings are doing a brilliant job.

I just continue to be blown away by this whole process. Not only does the new stadium look amazing, but we are also getting such great behind the scenes photos. Mike, my (hard) hat is off to you and your team.

I know it has been said many times but I will never tire of saying it. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I read with great jealousy when folk say they go out of their way to drive past the stadium just to check it out.

.....wonder if it and the away end stands would have been better with glazed ends similar to the Chesterfield stadium rather than what has been installed?

Otherwise excellent. Can't wait to get the Saga Crew seats sorted.

Just a personal observation that as far as I'm concerned is a perfectly reasonable alternative. Obviously you disagree. ;)

Wow! Check out image 6 of 55, we are going to keep our own member of the construction
crew fossilized in glass (like the fossilized insects in amber, in Jurassic Park) to assist in future repairs of the stadium, in years to come! No detailed records of plans need to be kept, just drill into the fossilized workman, extract a blob of DNA, insert into some spare fetal cells, implant into
a receptive donor womb, raise offspring as a workman, then 18 years later you have your own
on site stadium construction specialist to maintain the project, in the long term.
Well done MFC, a truly magnificent stroke of forward thinking. :geek:

It's amazing how much they get done each day, a couple of weeks ago was looking at it thinking hmmm needs a lot of work, hope its ready in time. One week later the ouside of the main stand looks brilliant and exterior nearly complete. Obviously interior I only see through the great updates but least I feel it'l be ready on time. I think the last week or two with the good weather has helped lots, a warm summer please just to make sure!
Get over it ;)

just reading through this off the Accy forum there are suggestions towards the end of the thread that the Christie Park North Stand is being moved to the Crown Ground:

I have also been told this at a game a few weeks ago by a fellow supporter don't know where he got his info from though.

I'd rather it went to our nearest and dearest (sorry City, I mean in League 2  ) than for it to be scrapped.

Me and others too.... but the cost of dismantle, move and re-assemble was almost equivalent to starting from scratch I understand. Even more importantly the club has had to cut back on the Arena cost to keep the costs within budget, unlike other clubs who have spent money on structures that are hardly ever used to their capacity.

Thank goodness we've a Board who can show some financial restraint. All too easy to say 'sod it' and have to pay at some later stage.
