Money,money,money!

I was listening to the Sky football programme on Saturday afternoon and Jeff Stelling said that Macclesfield and Accy were the two financially worse off teams in League 2. Any thoughts on who the money bag teams are and where the Shrimps come in the financial league?

They have the 2 lowest average crowds. That doesn't mean they are the 2 worst in terms of finance.

Macclesfield were quoted as having the lowest playing budget in League two but how do they know that to be a fact, as far as i know there is not any where you can find the playing budget for each club. It would make interesting reading though especially when you could compare the budget to the league position.

You will be able to buy a copy of their filed accounts from companies house; perhaps Sky did that.

I bet there are plenty more with bigger debts, depends what you mean by 'worst off'.

Does anyone know what our debt situation is? People were saying that the sale of CP and construction of the Globe Arena would leave us with no debt but is this likely to still be the case?

Although to be honest, you can't say we're a well off club because we have little/no debt. That would mean we're richer than the top prem clubs (Man U etc).

There was a stat in the Daily Mail that our attendance on Sat plus Barnet's and Macclesfield combined was still less than Oxford's in the conference...........

We are richer than Man U, they are 790 m in debt , sorry no pound sign on this keyboard , and Liverpool are a few hundred mill in debt too. ;)

I wouldn't worry about that. There are so many permutations of other combinations of league 2 gates for such a comparison.

Our average league gates show an increase on last season to date. That is a stat that the Daily Mail or for that matter any others will not publish!

In view of our poor start to the season, that increase is something that we all should be proud of.

I wasn't making that comparison. There are clubs in the lower leagues - with crowds not much bigger than ours - who have considerable debts and are in a poor financial state compared to us. They scrape by with the odd sale of a player, the odd influx of cash from individuals. But they are playing a dangerous game and, as we've seen, it sometimes proves TOO dangerous and they go bust.

ManU and Liverpool have different issues - yes they are in huge debt but they also have huge turnover with which to repay it and they also know that there would be people willing to take that debt off their hands if things got too bad for the current owners to want to carry on.
