COVENTRY City has revealed a special third kit designed to commemorate this year's World Cup.

The club has released the first images of the limited edition white and navy shirt, which will be worn for the home match against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, March 27.

There will be just 2,010 shirts available to buy, priced at £29.99 for adults and £24.99 for children, and will be available to pre-order from http://www.ccfcshop.co.uk from Thursday (February 4).

OK I'm a Coventry fan, but even to me this seems like a rip-off

It has been designed to help City fans show off their club allegiance at the same time as wearing their country's colours during the tournament that starts in June.

Justin Tose, head of retail at CCFC, said: "Speak to anyone in football, and they are bursting with excitement ahead of the World Cup.

"We wanted to commemorate that with the launch of this third kit and we are delighted with the design. There are only 2,010 available so fans will have to move quickly if they want to get hold of one of these limited edition shirts."

He added: "Last year we marked the 125th anniversary with the chocolate brown shirt and it was a massive success and all the feedback we had was that our fans like having something different.

"We thought this would be a novel way to show support for club and country. The kit has a small St. George's flag embroidered on the sleeve with '2010' and we've kept in with the traditional national colours.

"We think we're the first club to do anything like this to show our support for the national team and hopefully it will prove as popular with our fans."

New Coventry City signing Carl Baker helped launch the kit with fellow January signing Richard Wood - and said he loved the idea of the shirt.

"I'm personally a huge World Cup fan and I think anyone who likes the game is excited about the South Africa tournament this summer," the midfielder said.

"To bring out a shirt that marks the World Cup year while showing support for the club is a great idea, and I'm sure the fans will like it.

"We've been waiting since 2006 to have that buzz in the country again and ideas like this only add to the excitement."
