My lad wanted to go last night and now i'm really glad the car was already full, so he didn't have to witness such stupidity.

I remember I was once a bit pissed and obnoxious at Christie Park when I was aboout 15.
This older guy had a quiet word with me and gave me a gentle slap around the head.
We got him the next week and kicked 7 bales out of him.

Glad I could've been of assistance in this discussion.(Sorry that was my attempt at humour)

I think the lads who were OTT realise via this forum that behavoir of a certain nature will not be accepted.
Time to forgive and move forward.
And I guess its up to the lads to show they can have a little more couth when venturing forth in the good name of Morecambe.

It is reasurring to read the majority of proper Morecambe fans were annoyed with the behaviour of a few of youngsters on Wednesday night.
I think we have all been there before when we were thier age - away from home with your mates, a few beers, the bravado comes and thier imaturity shows through.
Two things I think we should take from this are the fact that these lads are the future of this club and it's up to us to show them/tell them what is expected of them when they follow the club away from home. I saw a couple of guys telling the lads to zip it early on and perhaps if even half of those who have posted on here had voiced their opinions on the night this would have been all over very quickly - it's funny how this never happens at Christie? - I wonder why?
I hope this will prove to ba a one off and these lads will continue to follow Morecambe but perhaps be a bit mindful of how they behave - perhaps even try watching the game!

Now come on boys lets see some of that passion at Christie - I can hear the Millers singing 'your supposed to be at home' already!!!

Quality post there squire!

I have a feeling some of the older fans are starting to blow this out of all proportion. This thread is far too long and boring now. Yes a handful of kids were acting daft but nothing I feel that could have brought down the good name of the club. I was sat on the back row right behind them, so could see what was going on. The stewards did their job and were in my opinion rather lenient with them. I have worked as a steward for Huddersfield, so know the rules they should be following. Repeat offenders should have been kicked out. Lack of police probably made it more hassle than it is worth.

Lets kiss, make up and look forward to getting behind the boys tomorrow. Bring me sunshine...

Long gone are the days you could give someone a slap and teach them a lesson. All we're left with are volumes of reports written about every incident which get added to our records. What it means is any larger ground we go to in the future, they won't bother looking to see that we're britain's favourite team but they'll find the Forest report.

The repurcussions of a one-off incident last for a long time.

For what it's worth I'm going to chuck in my halfpenneth worth.

I think the young lads do offer something in that they're determined to make noise and show the odd glimmer of humour - Trent End gives us a song (how it took them 34 minutes though to start it is shocking) and 'empty seats'.

The problem as someone else pointed out is that they seemed to spend very little time actually watching the game and instead goading either stewards or Forest fans. It just makes you look pathetic.

Additionally of the first four songs they sang only one was actually supportive of our own team. Sadly a few our older fans joined in to give Forest stick. Who cares? Teams go up and down, they've had a glorious past and are doing well again. Good for them. Now concentrate on getting behind OUR team!

However I fully expect the geographically challenged (small team in Derby - oh that'll put the fear of God in them) to be slagging off every visiting team. It's sad and utterly pathetic. However, I know that for one of our older fans the whole point is to hate the opposition.

Finally, the worst site for me was seeing four kids no older that 16 years old pissed outside the ground before the game. They should never been allowed in.

So come on lads direct your energies into backing your team, work with your fellow supporters and let's make some genuinely positive noise on Saturday.
VIVE LA REVOLUTION!

I appeal to all sane and mature fans: the next away game, when these muppets ask us all to stand up if we love morecambe, stay seated and let the stewards do what needs to be done. then we can enjoy and concentrate on the game, otherwise our number 1 position as the most liked club wont last very long!

As I questioned before, 'would you have carried on if the Police had a camera on you'.... as they had at Bury?
I'll answer that for you
No, you wouldn't.
Do you honestly believe the Police would have seen it as a bit of harmless banter?
I'll answer that for you as well.
No, they wouldn't.
Do you think that if we ever went back to their ground their might be a couple of Policemen (or women)..... (sorry Stan) there to back up the stewards because of your behaviour?
Probably.
You could start your long progress in the growing up process by apologising to the majority of supporters who thought you went over the top with your 'enjoyment of the game'.

As said before, don't think you were exactly 'footy thugs' just need to learn a bit of respect.

Glad you were there, but you just need to know when to call it a day and enjoy the game.

All the best lads, hope this sinks in, no hard feelings, we're all there for the same reasons at the end of the day.

Why so much nastyness?
Even Poulton Prawn v Catpoocook wasn't as bad as I've read in this thread.
The trouble with a lot of young people these days is that they genuinely don't think that they are ever in the wrong.
Respect to them, a vast minority, is all about respecting them, as against them respecting common decency and the enjoyment of others, the vast majority.
It's a shame a few 'mug shots' weren't taken from pitch-side, and used to ban the no-markers concerned from Crusty for a long time.

I reckon the depth of annoyance and anger on this thread would justify posting a few images.

I thought about posting the images of the ones being escorted beneath the stand or sent to no-mans-land but in most of them they look to be proud of what they've done. And what would they do with the photos? Probably post them on myspace or facebook or bebo to show off to their mates. No, they won't appear in public.

I have a lot of sympathy with these young lads in many ways.

When I was in my high teens I used to enjoy lots of shouting and goading of the opposition fans. It was quite common even in our NPL days. Games that stick in my mind as being particularly loud were the York FA Cup game away when you really had to be doing something proper (chucking stuff at the York lot) to get thrown out, the Barrow games, St Helens at home, a Bolton pre season 'friendly', and actually pretty much any game when a good number of away fans came to Christie. These mentioned games were far more aggressive than any games we go to now.

If I remember too, full on swearing and shouting was quite normal especially from a group of older fans (pensioners for the most part) who always stood in the corner of what is today the home end. Nobody batted an eyelid but took it all as part of the fun and entertainment. The same line every week from one older fan still sticks in my mind 'You're an absolute disgrace ref, a bloody useless disgrace, bloody rubbish ref'. I thought it was really funny hearing it every week and used to have a bet with a mate on what minute he would start up.

I feel times have changed indeed now and not all of it for the better. The tiniest bending of a rule at a ground, a few morsels of choice vocabulary or a little exuberance leads to an over reaction that is putting people off going to a game (away particularly). Atmospheres in stadiums are nowhere near what they were and young fans, the future life blood of football are going to be turned off the game.

I say we should give a little more leeway and stop adding to this increasingly nanny state mentality.

If I remember too,

We've all got memories, I remember a super swimming stadium.
I feel times have changed indeed now and not all of it for the better.

Whether anyone thinks it's for the better or not, this is where we are now. Taunting stewards isn't going to change anything, if anything it will only enforce the beliefs that the stewards were right.
