Team for Accrington

Team for Accrington

Postby james456 » Sat Jan 30, 2010 5:39 pm

Its a whole week off but what team should we put out against Accrington in what is sure to be a tough game?

I'd go for-

Mullin-Curtis
Wainwright-Drummond-Panther-Hunter
Wilson-Artell-Haining-Parrish
Roche

Subs: Davies, McStay, Bentley, Stanley, Duffy, Twiss, Jevons

Go back to basics and play simple, direct football on the deck. As for Accys physical play, we need to either:

a) Go in hard ourselves if the referee again gives us no protection.
b) Tell our players to dive and win set pieces. I don't see why we should play by the rules if other teams don't and the referee doesn't stop it.

Accy will have captain andy proctor suspended as he was sent off today which is some good news and surely we can't play as badly as we did there last season can we

I would like to see 11 individuals who can run their b******s off for 90 minutes because that is the only way we are going to get anything out of this game. Coleman openly states he has a squad of young players and they play at a high tempo for the full 90, because they can.

If we don't want to be chasing shadows for most of the game, ala last year there, then we need to match their energy and earn the right to play. If any of ours think they can coast through the game they can forget it cos' it's going to be a long miserable afternoon for players and fans alike if they do.

Procter got sent off for two bookings so that will be a one game ban won't it? That will be Tuesday evening when they play Barnet unless that game is off which is a distinct possibility because the ground is frozen solid round here. In that case he'd miss ours.

I haven't missed a game at Accy in donkeys years and the last time I can remember getting anything there was about 1957 when a certain J.Coleman scored a top corner screamer in a 4-0 win. Since then it seems like 50 years of hurt, give or take a few years. Please if there is a God let it be this weekend when we get a bit of payback.

PS. Dates may not be strictly accurate so can the forum pedants leave me alone please!

I think we need to play our more physical players we know what the accy game plan will be and we have to be able to stand up to it.

I know Curtis had a bad game saturday but remember on Boxing day everyone was saying why didn't we bring him on earlier as it was his type of game.

Roche

.........Haining Jimbo Artell......

....Hunter.....................................Wilson

.......Drummond....Panther....Stanley...

...................Curtis.........Mullin ..........

I would have Jevons on the bench as they will just try and kick him out of the game and bring him on later if we need a goal.

Dont know about that formation , but probably same players or maybe Twissy for Mullin . Reason being that instead of playing it on the deck we will just use Mullin as a target man and just hoof balls up to him all the time . :( . If Jimbo gets a start i dont think he will want to give it up so easily and will be out to prove himself . But i thought Hunter had already done that this season , so i hope he and Panther come in to add some much needed strength and creativity to the midfield . :o
