On Monday I went with a friend of mine to watch his beloved Huddersfield Town play MK Dons.
On entering the Galpharm I was amazed to see people in the 'open-air' concourse areas within the stadium having a smoke!
It appeared to be normal practice though obviously no one was allowed to have a cig in or underneath the stands.
No one was approached by a steward about it & it certainly made my half-time bovril more enjoyable ....
With CP having many open areas but a complete smoking ban it made wonder wether it's a club decison to enforce the ban completely or wether like @ Huddersfield it could be laxed a little - so long as smokers abided by & appreciated the leniency.

i dont smoke and never have, but must admit smokers are hard done by especially in public places ie. airports, supermarkets, just like some pubs could do, could they not have smoking rooms/areas with air extractors/conditioning



i think its that whats hit the pubs just as much as cheap booze in super markets, and unemployment

I'm a non smoker too.I agree that banning smoking inside premises is excellent because I don't want to share the smoke. However in the open air I can't see a problem with it and it's gone too far banning it from all areas of the ground.

Designated smoking areas at the back of all stands would be a good thing. Some people can't go 2 hours without a fag so probably would rather miss a game than their fags.

The smoking ban helped me to cut down from 10 a day to about 10 a year and they'll be cut out in 2010, the more I am discouraged to smoke the better, there is absolutely no sense in it.
Wanting to light up around the majority of non smokers is a pretty selfish act in itself let alone going back to your seat stinking like an ashtray ( believe me if you smoke you smell far worse than you can imagine) Quit while you still have your health

While on the face of it it appears sensible, I think the reason it shouldn't/isn't supposed to happen is so kids aren't taken in to the smoking areas with parents. If a section of 'Car Wash stand' was smoking allowed but no kids could go in to it, that may be a reasonable compromise.

Our terrace with no roof, aka the new car wash could accomodate smokers, we could call it the bens son and hedges terrace

smoking is disgusting and should be banned from everywhere in my opinion - you go to the toilet behind the north stand at half time and you have to walk through a gang of people smoking which is not on

I am not a smoker ; but i do feel if there was a smoking area at cp it would encourage a few stay aways back. I do know of certain people that wont go as they carnt have a ciggy, i am so pleased i dont smoke. At certain grounds they have areas outside the ground ,were they issue you with a ticket stub to return to the ground maybe they could adopt this at Shrimp Heaven

As someone said above, its ridiculous to get to the toilet you have to find your way through 20 or so smokers just to get there.

Precisely the point I initially tried to make - WHAT are the rules? Did you have to go past 20 'sneeky' smokers before the smoking ban to get to the toilet? If they were near the Lctr Rd exit gate or in the bar area behind the North Stand would it still be a hinderence for you to go to the lav?

even as a non smoker, i am pro choice, and i think an open air venue usually two thirds empty, smokers could easily be accommodated and potentially boost gates, anyone in the licencing trade will tell you how the smoking ban has affected them, its u to the individual to carry out the legal practice of smoking as long as it affects only themselves.

To be honest as a member of the licenicing trade SOME (not all) smokers are very selfish and treat smoking area floors like a giant ashtray and don't use the designated ones that have been put in at great expense. Those that smoke in the toilets at Christie Park should be sorted out like those when we go away (some know who they are!) Maybe the smoking police at our ground have got peed off with having to sort people out every home game.

BTW - smokers still go on holiday and spend hours on a plane without smoking and also get dragged round shopping centres with the wife without having a fag - why cant they still go to footie and the pub and like Mark S said - abide by the rules????
