It's been stated in the past but why would you want to buy Jevons when you already have him?
If I gave you a car to use when you want and you only have to pay the petrol ( part of the running costs),why would you offer to buy the car and pay all the costs yourself?
We all like watching Jevons bang in the goals, but if we want to keep him at the end of the
season (unless he takes a big wage cut) he'd be equivalent to the money from about 400 home fans once a fortnight.
Thats about a fifth of our revenue, on one player.
Enjoy his goals while you can, then leave it to the board and manager to find the next good deal for the club.
Wouldn't it be great if we still had Baker and Thommo? but we couldn't afford to keep them.
There's no need to panic, we have these players from good deals done already, theres no reason
to doubt good deals will be done again ;)
Enjoy the here and now, don't fret about what might be.
Of course if anyone can bring an extra 5,000 mates to each home game then things change. ;)

so why did we offer Thommo a new contract?

We did indeed and Thommo wanted to move up the ladder to a bigger club (fair enough). In this case, Jevons has stated in the press that he'd like to sign for us permanantly. For a club like ours, actually attracting good players to sign for us is more than half the battle IMO. It would be a shame if we had this great player, best goalscorer we've ever had (considering the level we now play at) who wants to sign for us but we ended up not signing him because of financial reasons.

We offered Thommo a record contract which was probably quite a sum. I hope we would do the same for Jevons and if the opportunity is presented to the board, I think they will.
