Confirming the pre-match speculation, Manchester City have sacked Mark Hughes despite their win against Sunderland.

Hughes has been replaced by Roberto Mancini with Brian Kidd installed as his Number 2.

I'm not a Blues fan but I wonder given the pressure of the role and the money available that it will not be a marriage made in heaven.

Hughes will no doubt get a fantastic pay off and I wouldn't be suprised to see him in a return to the Premiership sometime in the not too distant future.

A move across town maybe?

Manchester City this evening stunned the footballing world as they not only dispensed with the services of manager Mark Hughes, but also replaced him with the untried Terry Mancini.

The former Watford, Orient, Queens Park Rangers, Arsenal and Aldershot fans favourite couldn’t believe that he had landed a managerial role at one of England’s top Premiership clubs.

Mancini said: “At the age of 68 I really believed my footballing days were over. I thought it was a joke at first.

“A foreign guy telephoned me and asked if I was Mancini? I said I was and he started to offer me obscene amounts of money, free petrol for the car, and the job at Man City.

“How could I refuse? After all I was a taxi driver after ending my playing days. I’ll be travelling up to Manchester on Monday morning to meet the directors and the players.”

Fantasy? Yes, a bit like everything about the Premier League.

Why's that ? Hughes was under no illusion of what the owners wanted and expected having spent millions of ££££££££££s

Whatever you feel about the situation, sympathy for m hughes does not come on the radar,they will pay him up in full, another well paid job will be offered soon, and city will be thereabouts over time as long as the cash keeps flowing,there will be people lower down the food chain at city that hughes brought in that deserve sympathy, whilst he sits back and enjoys the xmas break!!

yes he will get a large pay out from it but at the end of the day he has only lost 2 games I know they have had a lot of draws but thats not the point they are sitting at the top end of the table and in the semi finals of the Carling Cup you have to think what more do they want from a manager!

P.S. some rumours going round sparky for the county job!

Good call mate i got a gut felling it's going to be Alan King Curbishley best manager at Charlton of all time.

I think you'll find that Jimmy Seed was the best Charlton manager of all time, getting them two promotions and finishes of 2nd, 4th and 3rd in the top flight, plus their only trophy in an FA Cup win in 1947. Do your research!
