And if we keep the pattern for the rest of the season Aldershot are in for a 30-0 hammering last game of the season

The original post is slightly flawed as The Daily Mail reports the sequence was actually 1-0, 4-0, 3-0, 2-0 prior to Saturday. So the scores didn't quite go up in sequence as was suggested. I'm sure there are mathematicians out there who could suggest what the next number would be in a sequence that starts 1,4,3,2,5 ... Sounds like a Mensa question! What would be the next number and why?

I know the answer!!!
If you add all the numbers up which equals 15, then divide by 5 which then gets the average that then equals three. Then we have to include the fact that Jevons will eat one extra piece of weetabix for his breakfast making him extra strong and deadly upfront, along with Drummy 'gettin some' of his misses th night prior to the match. Therefore the 3 goals on average will become 5 as these 2 players will mathmatically score an extra goal. Why not 7 you ask, well because these two are in such fine form but others players are unlikely to score the crackers they did the week before and bringing into account we are away then 5 is the obvious choice.
To get the ammount of goals for the opposition you have to add the goal tallys up from the last five games which brings a massive 0 divided by 5 which for all you maths whizz's = 0
Then factor in that Roche is a monster in net, along with the fact that Grimsby wont touch the ball till the 89th minute only to be hounded by the common denominator Hunter who'll cancel out anything Grimsby throw at us.
Therefore the score will be Grimsby0-5Morecambe......I got a B on my maths GCSE I know what I'm talking about.

Last 5 scores.....1, 4, 3, 2, 5....looking at it two ways..

1) 1 + 4 = 5, 3 + 2 = 5 so 5 + ? = 5 ans 0 sequence 5,5,5,?

2) 1 + 4 = 5, 4 + 3 = 7, 3 + 2 = 5, 2 + 5 = 7, so 5 + ? = 5 ans 0 sequence 5,7,5,7,?

Working through a different route but I'm with Alan.

The Mensa answer is quite clearly that we won't score at Grimsby.

Taking each alternate number from the start of the run we go 1, 3, 5 (so, using the first game in that sequence as game number 1 - each odd-numbered game we're increasing our score by two).

BUT each even numbered game, we're decreasing by two. Our sixth game in that run would follow the sequence 4, 2..... so produce 0 I'm afraid.

Ah well, never mind, it was good while it lasted!
