Winter Gardens Rocking Last Night

Great gig by The Specials last night in Blackpool and was a total sell out. Old farts and new celebrating their childhood ska and 2 tone adventures  When Gangsters came on i'm sure the room itself was actually bouncing and fealt the need to move away from those ballroom chandeliers! Did'nt want a repeat of Del & Rodney

Still got great energy those guys

Such a pity that the heading doesn't read 'Morecambe's Winter Gardens Rocking Last Night'.

I know it's a well aired topic but with the present non commercially minded old farts fronting the campaign to save the Gardens, I can't really see it ever being in a position to cater for such events as that of last night in 'pool.

For me. it's money being wasted and for what?

Is it 35 years of nothing?

Yes I expected a bite from a very large fish!

The bars and eating places beforehand were filled up by many of the bands followers. One pub inparticular was playing their CD on the jukebox which created quite a party atmosphere. Just shows how others benefit from such an event. Would'nt like the cleanup operation afterwards tho', something like 5000 x 5 plastic glasses
One guy had been to the concert at Cardiff on Sunday then Bridlington on Monday. He is following them to every venue and was vexed to be heading for Plymouth/Margate tonight, then back to the Midlands, up to Edinburgh only to be faced with a Brighton trip before its back to the Midlands and finish in London :o

I think NeilG mentioned this travelling aspect to concerts on a different thread but this 30th anniversary concert tour really has them travelling up, down and round and round.

When I said "he deserves a medal" for following them everywhere he was amazed we did the same with Morecambe F.C. and said we "should have 2 medals!"

Strangely enough our Winter Gardens closed the same year as The Specials formed :o

No wonder it's a Ghost Town!

Good venue is the Blackpool Winter Gardens
Best thing that could happen to Morecambe Winter Gardens is for it to burn down due to a electrical fault, and it needs to burn down so it is beyond repair. The back would need to fall in and the whol;e structure would crash down, it would be a positive day for Morecambe. We could than get real and start exploring the realistic prospects for this central area.
There would be maybe a real prospect of building some kind of arts Centre where we could attract real modern acts such as up and coming bands.
We have no real chance of aspiring to this with the Status Quo.

A bit like the prime location of Frontierland? If it burnt down, Morecambe would have another derelict wasteland.

So how did that work out then?

At it again last night but this time only had The Queen, Peter Kay, Michael Buble, Lady Ga Ga, Whoopi Goldberg, Lulu, Katherine Jenkins, Chaka Khan, Bette Midler, Anastacia, Diversity, Alexandra Burke and others.

The town must have been gutted to only have them turn up :?
