A Lincoln Fan's View (My View): Great Day Out, Awful Game

Postby billyimp » Sun Nov 01, 2009 12:23 pm

Congratulations on the result yesterday, you were easily the better side. We are both struggling sides so I think it was a big game for both teams. We however, were poor. Very poor. I haven't seen Lincoln play as poor as we did in the first half for years. But credit where it's due, you spotted our weaknesses quickly and exploited them. We had a switch in formation yesterday, normally we play a 4-5-1 formation. When we play this formation we concede very few but then score few also. Yesterday we switched to 4-4-2 and it just showed how fragile our defence is at the moment. In my opinion, too many loanees, Sutton often signs a player on the Thursday or Friday and puts them straight into the team for a Saturday game. How are they supposed to gel in that time? No one had a clue where they should be or who they should be marking and this showed (especially at set pieces). All three goals were due to defensive errors on Lincoln's part, however the goals were definitely deserved because you easily had the most possession and showed decent build up play. Second half, we looked like we wanted it and started playing slightly better football. But it proved to be too little too late. We (the fans) knew we had lost as soon as the second goal went in - we haven't come from behind to win (or draw) yet this season! Rant about the game now over, I can comment on the matchday experience. We had a constant party in the Umbro stand and I thoroughly enjoyed my day out! About 10 of us went in fancy dress and all had a great time. I know the stewards enjoyed our partying! I hope you enjoyed the use of my air raid siren? Here are some videos from the game yesterday:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-RozEinVic (This one is the best- we preteneded to score 3 goals, the vid is best from 1 min 30 onwards)

Enjoy . . .
Cheers, Billy.

Don't be too harsh on me!

May I also suggest, for some good old banter and to read more Lincoln views to pop over to http://lincoln.vitalfootball.co.uk/index.asp and click on forums.

I don't think we will serve up such cr*p each week.
It's good to see a forum as active as ours by the way (www.lincoln.vitalfootball.co.uk). Many clubs in league 2 don't have such active forums!

It's also nice to have away fans coming on here in a friendly manner!
Good luck for the rest of the season, hope you avoid the drop (unless it's at our expense) ;)

Hopefully that won't be anytime soon :D

Good luck and I am happy for you to finish just one place below us ;)

At the moment, finishing 22nd at the end of the season will be considered a success! Then shift out the tosh that played yesterday and start rebuilding for the new season. I would only keep Burch (our keeper), Torres and a few of the young-uns. Khano Smith caused you a few problems when he played on the left, he was the cause for your first goal through poor marking but I thought he looked good going forward. Should have stayed on in my opinion.

It did seem quiet considering you were 3-0 up at one point! But I take your point ezz. Yeah, that's a great tie for you isn't it? I heard it read out over the loudspeaker before the game.

Yeh a very good, quite local tie so should be a good crowd and abit of pride on the line too. Not to mention a nice bit of cash for going through. Who did you draw in the cup?

AFC Telford away. So another party on the terraces is in order! I think we might be going into that games as underdogs  I'm not expecting much, could be embarrassing . . .

 never underestimate the power of being under-dog, we being in our conference days know anything is possible in the FA cup. It's a shame many don't get as excited about now were in the league, but to me it's still one of the most important dates for our club. A chance to have a crack at the big boys after 2 wins?? Yes please!!!!

I tried to get a photo of the guy in red winding the siren up but couldn't see him when he bent down to do it. I even had a caption...

That Little Imp Made a Devil of a Noise!

Here's a few of you though...

So how did that work out then?

Sounding the siren at corners is meant to symbolise our incoming threat from above! (Which doesn't really exist anymore as we are pants at set pieces)
I was the guy in red!
Here are some pics from the Lincoln site of us in fancy dress and one of the siren!
