Barnes' time at Tranmere now up, along with his sidekick McAteer

I once had a wee next to the shellsuited Jason McAteer (tiny)

Some clubs could well take a leaf out of our book and give their managers time.

He has to be one of the worst managers ever.

The blokes record is shocking where ever he has been.

Yeah spot on then when he gets ill we could get his mate in for cover, then realise he is a good manager, so sack the full time manager the day he gets back from being ill?

I am not bring this agrument back up but we are really in no place to take a moral high ground with respect to managers and how to deal with them being sacked.

If we were in the same position as Tranmere fans most would be calling for his head too. Barnes deserved to go.

My point is that there have been a few times in the past years when performances and results could have resulted in our Board taking the easy option.....that of sacking the manager.

To their credit they stood by the manager(s) at the time.

The obvious and significant difference being, CC, that both Sammy and Jim had very good records of success with Morecambe - both bringing the club to the highest points in its history and also riding out occasional 'blips' to bring us back even stronger.

When those poor runs did happen, everyone needed to remind themselves of those facts before jumping to what might have been the wrong decision.

Barnes has no track record whatsoever to support him through any bad times.

Which is to the credit of the Board....unlike some who 'panic' at the first sign of problems.

Except both of the managers to whom you allude have achieved success early on in their managerial careers with us. Jim Harvey wasted no time in getting us into the conference and likewise Sammy McIlroy into League Two. John Barnes has gone to Tranmere and been a total disaster from day 1 and it's better that they react now rather than early next year when it'll be almost too late.

One bookie has Shaun Garrett and Les Parry as favorites for the Tranmere job at 7/1, there are about 40 names on the list with Sammy at 16/1 and John Coleman 11/1.

Some strange names being put about here on the Wirral, two especially, firstly David OLeary and the second one who is meant to be a close friend of the tranmere chairman is Paul Jewell, both of which are way out of Tranmeres budget surely, the main reason Ronnie Moore was sacked was due to poor attendances YES poor attendances so they brought in Barnes to bump up the crowds, HA HA what a joke most of Tranmere fans did not want him in the first place so sure they will sleep well tonight

both Steve McLaren and Peter Taylor tipped to take over the owners expect at the minimum to get promoted which might make some managers think twice about going there also there are rumours going round Sven is to be named Sweden coach but that one looks like it's not got much chance of happening

Looks like Aldershots run of form has got Gary Waddock the Wycombe job. We used to get other Managers the sack ~ now we get them promoted!

That worked out well for Grimsby, and seems to be exactly the type of thing some posters on here are wanting to happen at our club.

I think the next two games will determine what happens here.

Grimsby is a big place and expectations are rightly higher than ours.

Unless we play appallingly and are thumped in both matches, I doubt it. I think there are some people on this forum who are much more concerned than the board are.

If we were abject every week, I could understand the reaction of some on here, but, for the most part, we haven't been. Yes, results are disappointing, but we're playing in the right way and change for change sake has to potential to set up back rather than move us forward.

All IMO of course.

The only really diabolical performance so far this season was at Burton. That was an unacceptable performance.

Ever since that day the team has played better and better. To emerge from a sequence of fixtures against Chesterfield , Rochdale , Rotherham , Notts County , Dagenham , Shrewsbury unbeaten was extraordinary.

Every match at Christie bar the Shrewsbury game has been a good one with us creating plenty of chances.

Lets all get behind the team in the next 2 home games against The Cobblers and Lincoln and put 6 points on the board.

YES!!!

That is it... if we'd been playing the long ball rubbish that we were at times in the past and still been in the position we are now, I would be extremely concerned. But we're not. We're playing some of the best football in years and simply not getting the breaks. We're (IMHO) VERY CLOSE to being an excellent team and that despite some awful injuries to key players.
