Just reported on BBC.

We've claimed a lot of managers along the way but this is the first player I can recall. Should make a good quiz question in a few years time.

How bizarre. Next stop Newcastle United for less than half the money?

So how did that work out then?

Ironic that Campbell's brief foray into L2 cost us more than County with Panther being out for two months.

According to Talk Sport this morning Sol cant sign for any other club as he is in effect making himself a free agent outside of the transfer window. Im sure he will find a way around it if he really wants to?

I think you have to be a free agent for a month before you can sign for another team.

Well i have just had a quick look at the Notts county forum,Seems as it's all going tits up.
The fans once mouthing off about how they are going to wipe the floor with this leauge are now talking about getting points deducted. Also going on about how they never wanted Sol Campbell at their club? When they were bragging about it. Saying his was shit on saturday. Fair enough he did make some mistakes but some of the takles he made just showed class. He read the game and hasn't played in ages.. I think they just think money can buy them everything. But surely they must realise that they are the team everyone wants to beat.. And it made me laugh that some people had only just worked out he was there for the money.. NEVER!

It's official he's left.

Notts County FC confirms that Sol Campbell has asked to cancel his five year contract with the Club, this has been agreed by mutual consent.

Peter Trembling, Executive Chairman said: "While we are disappointed that Sol felt that he could not adjust to the long term nature of the project underway at Notts County, we obviously wish him the best with the remainder of his career and hope that he is able to obtain a place where he can play at International level ahead of the 2010 World Cup.

"The investment project is on track; we've brought in a lot of new players and resources into the Club, but obviously this is a five year project, not a five week one. For any fan that bought a new Notts' shirt and had 'Campbell' printed on the back, I am pleased to offer a voucher for the club shop for a replacement shirt."

What a farce. Fair play regarding the replacement shirts though.

I said last week I thought the Notts County 'dream' would ultimately end in tears.

I did'nt think the cracks would be appearing quite this soon though.

Sol

if you want a club to play for for "footballing reasons" we have a vacancy at Halton Rangers for a central defender.
Looking at all the reports on this we may be your best option

Maybe he thought it would be a walk in the park dropping down to league two, or possibly he just realised he had made a mistake, at 35 he wouldn't still be playing even if County did make it to the Premier league at the end of their five year plan.
