O/T BT Vision & BT Total Broadband

In my home we are changing from sky to BT Vision, although sky is fantastic the cost of it is getting ridiculous, we are also changing calls from sky to BT aswell as Internet from Orange to BT
Does anyone on here have BT Vision or BT Total broadband?

what are you thoughts on it?

I have both, i get free bb as a BT employee, i hav never had any issues with the broadband what so ever!!

BT vision is fantastic I have the bronse pack that gives me the tv pack and film pack, you can choose different packs though depends on preference and i also get free espn, thats £15.00 after any offers and is well worth the money!!

where about do you live? usually dropouts are due to line lengh or the quality of wiring. IE internal wiring or old eternal wiring.

Also 02 can't provide me direct round this area and have to piggy back with another firm will this cause a worse connecton than going with them direct.

I have BT broadband for internet and calls as well I also have a friend who has BT vison never had any problems and had been fantastic I did switch from AOL though which must be one of the worst internet providers EVER

Basically most other service providers use the BT network to provide broadband to there customers, all that is different is they carry there own broadband equipment in the exchange meaning they just have to jumper your line onto the adsl equipment at the exchange.

BT Openreach are responsibly for the network and any work that is required, BT Openreach work on behalf of all service providers in the UK apart from cable and kingston communications!!

I changed over to bt vision@broadband in july this year and have been more than happy with everything,if that is of any help

If it's the wiring inside your house, it'll be bad no matter who you're with. How is your router connected to the phone line? If it's on the end of a long extension line, that will have serious affects on your speed. Your router should be plugged in as near to the main socket in your house as possible.

thats so true i was going to say something along those lines, the time ive tweaked peoples modems/routers/connections so they get double the speed or more

She's had a nightmare time with BT after trying to transfer from Virgin. Virgin kept charging her, BT charged her wrong, they charged her for Vision even though they still hadn't got around to switching her broadband on, non-stop hassle.

Then I was there this weekend, trying to sort photos out. I had to keep resetting the router every four minutes. In the end I gave up and connected a cable to the router. She's not happy. I'm sure if it works it is great, but if it goes wrong you're in for nightmares.

I'm fed up with BTs constant calls and letters trying to get me to switch to their package. They always start by saying they are cheaper than my existing provider but go surprisingly silent when I tell them the deal I was on. If they had a decent database they'd have crossed me off their contact list years ago but no, the latest mailshot landed on saturday.

I've been with a few ISPs, Nildram, Plusnet, Eclipse, Virgin and currently TalkTalk. I've read online a lot of critiscism about TalkTalk but I know lots of people that use them and they're not complaining. I switched from Virgin to TT about a month ago. I got emails and letters from TT advising me of dates when things would happen and the router turned up the day before go-live. Absolutely no complaints and for £24/month I get a decent connection, internet protection (firewall, antivirus, antiphishing, etc) and an 80GB download limit. Did I say the £24 INCLUDES my line rental, evening/weekend 01&02 calls and free 0845&0870 calls off-peak. BT can't touch that package.

My problem with BT is arrogance and price, too much of both.

As for the router problem, who else has a wireless router or TV transmitter close by? I know someone that suffered for months with poor wireless signals and in the end simply plugged the PC into the router and not had a problem since. Even PC next to router, still a poor wireless signal. Probably something they're broadcasting from Christie Park but more likely something installed in a neighbours.

I used to have an o2 internet connection it was fine for a couple of months but then the problems started I could not allways get a connection and when I did it was very slow when I went in to the lancaster store they simply didn't want to know untill I told them I wanted to cancel my subsription they then bombarded me with offers and reasons to stay with them but I didn't bother to stay on why whould I want to pay for something that I can't use when I want it and does not give me a decent internet connection when I need it

As with Sam (Gentle giant), i too also work for BT and actually are involved in selling both BT Broadband and Vision.

Of course i would recommend the Broadband package, however with BT Vision, as long as you don't mind missing Sky Sports, it is a superb, consistent product.

The only problems with BT VISION that will arise are as follows:

Broadband speed less than 2mb
No working TV ariel.
No freeview coverage
No ch.5 reception via your TV (not satellite (this is only for those who want ESPN)).

Fair enough when Nildram were owned by their founders they were superb. However they've gone through three owners in as many years and are now owned by Tiscali. In my view they've gone from one of the best ISPs to one of the worst. However don't what ever you do cancel your service! It is virtually impossible to cancel, however if you do follow the procedure then you'll have a debt collector on your door in under six months, as they simply don't invoke the cancellation, and then, because they've got no accounts department, sell on your debt to a debt collection firm. We had to threaten with legal action (I got a small claims action) to get them to go away and by then we were about £50 out of pocket.

I've got both BT Total Broadband and BT Vision, and I can certainly recommend them.

With broadband the download speeds are excellent, we've had no downtime, wireless router is superb and they've even reduced the cost with a loyalty discount.

As for BT Vision it works out around £5.49 a month for me, for which I get a huge library of old TV programmes for free and instantly accessible. Also get full Freeview channels plus a few more with unlimited recording of live TV, ability to pause and rewind as per Sky+, a huge library of films on a pay-per-view basis and quite a bit more. Really good value and you now get ESPN for free.

Rumours are that BT Vision is struggling with subscriber numbers but if it can build up some subscriber numbers then it could really take on Sky. What will make a difference is that Ofcom stopped BT selling bundled packages of TV, broadband and phone but that was lifted today so watch out for a big change. Additionally it is quite likely that Sky will be forced by Ofcom to share its football and film content with BT Vision and Virgin Media. That would change the game immensely.

I swapped my phone deal (BT) and broadband deal (Tiscali) for a full Sky package last year.

I'd previously cancelled Sky to save some cash, then went for this deal because I got the whole lot - plus Sky+ - for the same price it had cost me a couple of years earlier just for the Sky.

I don't have any complaints about what I'm getting at the moment but if BT do start to get a few more football and other sports events, currently on Sky, I'll have another look.

last i heard we they'd been bought out by pipex? must have been bought out again

but Ive always found there service spot i recently moved house 4 months ago and moved the service and a even faster connection no problems

Talktalk for myself and my parents. Overall I would recommend.

Modems they supply sometimes aren't that good, but they will send out a replacement sharply to you. They supply a disk to go through virtually any problem you may come across and self repair, or give a special code for you to give to their engineer saving loads of time.

Years ago I did have a problem their "normal" techs couldn't solve, I was given another number to ring (only valid for one week though ).
They worked it out in about 3 mins
"Anything else I can help you with?" came the question,
"Yea you could fix it for my team to win at Wembley!"
"Would that be Morecambe?, God I'm sick of hearing about bloody Morecambe going to Wembley, now the people on the phone are talking about it!!"

He had a Morecambe sat next to him Main help desk in India, specialists in Preston

BTW it was the antivirus I was using, because I was at the end of the contract with them they'd blocked my connection to scare me into renewing

I have to have BT Vision as I have no other choice - I can't have Sky due an enormous tree opposite my house and my road isn't on cable.

My only gripe with them was at the start, when they wanted to charge me £122.50 connection fee, despite me having a phone with a dialing tone. They eventually backed down, and everything looks fine so far.

No Sky Sports is the only real disappointing thing, but it's eased slightly with free ESPN.
