There's Always Somebody Worse Off

Taken from the Darlo Board:

You can't blame people for staying away when the club arguably needs them now more than ever?

I can't believe some people on this board, I really can't. Not just you, but several. We have people calling for the manager's head after 4 league games. He had to put together a squad who couldn't sign contracts until one week before the season started, at a club who came out of administration ONE DAY before the season started. We nearly went out of business. OUT OF EXISTANCE. Frankly I'm grateful we're bottom of League 2 as opposed to, say, the Northern League.

What I'm seeing from people on this board is not support for the football club. They don't go to games, they say "oh we're bottom of the league, we're shit, there's no point". I see them complaining that prices have gone up and things no-one else ever provided for free are now being charged for by us as well - so that the club can make a profit. To avoid another summer like the last one. Or the one a few years ago. And yet you can't be bothered, you don't turn up, you bitch, you moan, you complain. "Todd out" "We're shit" "We couldn't score in a brothel". Great. Well done. I'm sure Sky will welcome you with open arms.

I've had a season ticket for some time. Owing to some financial difficulties I can't afford to blow £250-£300 in one go these days, so for the last couple of years I've been paying per game. I go to every home game and haven't missed a competitive match at the Arena for about five years - and where I've missed friendlies it's because I've been on holidays arranged long before the matches were. I go when we're bottom now. I will go if we're still bottom in November. I will go if we're still bottom in March and I will go if we're bottom of the Conference a year from now. I support Darlington Football Club regardless of who walks onto the pitch in our shirt, and who gives them their orders.

I freely admit I cannot afford to go to away games but I have plenty of admiration for those that do.

You do not turn your back on a club just because you've had a couple of years of "close, but no cigar". It's those years that have led to this mess and now, because suddenly all in the garden doesn't seem as rosy, backs are being turned. It's pathetic.

When I get back from going out for a bit I expect to see some careful, reasoned responses from the people I'm calling out in the above rant. Really, I do.

Great shout that Mark.

I really don't know how you find the time to read all these message boards you keep quoting.
