Due to family commitments couldn't get to the game at Burton. A bit of luck by all accounts. Therefore i can't and won't comment on a game i didn't see.
Clearly though, and i've lost count of the amount of times i've said it on here, we need to play a holding midfielder (due to the lack of pace in the team). Trouble is we haven't got one (fit) at the moment. Fraser would have featured i've no doubt in Sammy's plans but that's sadly out the window now. I think Drummie could play that role (temporarily) well. Gary Hunter (when fit) too, or they could share/rotate it.
The 3-5-2 system heralded our good run last season. So if it isn't broke why fix it? Adams is crap at left back these days. But when not isolated in a centre-back three his experience is invaluable. Stanners can't play in a two man midfield - too indisciplined. To tighten it up we need three bodies in the centre of the park with one always 'holding' in front of the back three. Stanners can then play as an engine room type player which is what he's good at - driving the team forward.
We miss Yates. Yep, i've said it. Why we let him go i don't know? He could bomb forward on that right flank (either as a wing-back or right-back) and put a cross in as well as his defensive duties. We don't have that now. I actually liked Moss as one of the back three against Hereford. So i'm not having a go at him either by saying that.
McStay i've always said is one of the better players at the club but because he's not up Sammy's arse he doesn't get favoured. A 'steady Eddie' and that's what we need right now. He could try the Yates/Duffy role for now. He's played right-back but he does lack pace. But hey we're trying to look more solid for now aren't we? But at centre-half i think we need that steady type of player right now so he might as well feature somewhere.
Wilson fine as left-wing back. Going forward i think we've no probs either.
It's all about who Sammy is prepared to drop. How much do we need Adams left foot in that defense? And let's get Gary Hunter bloody fit quickly. We need players who are willing to put their foot in and 'wear the shirt'!
Tighten up the midfield and the results will come as we do look good going forward. A Heining/Bentley/Moss back three? It's up to the manager but i've thrown my three-penny's worth into the argument anyway.
