One year deals at the end of last season...

Adams - Been shocking so far
Artell - Apparently awful against Preston

Anyone else think we offered deals to the wrong personnel?

I thought Danny had a great game last week.

So how did that work out then?

I have to admit i was NEVER a fan of Danny Adams but he has been excellent over the last 20 or so games and one bad game does not make a bad player, its how they bounce back after a little bad spell and i am sure Danny will be fine

Agreed. Same thing happened last season - a couple of bad results and he's the scapegoat for it all.

Artell isn't blessed with a lot of pace either, and Danny's passing is much superior to Artell's hoof balls. Adams positional ability is the best of any defender at the club. Granted, he is bloody slow, but for me, he's the first defender that should be on the team sheet after Bentley.

Adams is brilliant and if he wasn't in the twilight years of his career there's no way he'd be playing here, his tactical awareness is second to none but his body can no longer keep up with the thoughts being transmitted

Artell needs to play more games if he's ever going to get back to his best.

Would Danny be a safer bet infront of a back 4?

There comes a time when all the positional sense in the world won't make up for being one of the slowest players in the Football League. With him in the side, we'll get crucified against the likes of Notts County and Dagenham. I honestly thought that we could maybe get one more season out of him as one of a back 3 but now I seriously have my doubts.

:) We all have different points of view. Life would be somewhat boring if we didn't. I just don't own rose-tinted glasses when it comes to certain players. We've had good service from Danny Adams, including in the second half of last season in a back 3. However, he is part of a defence that has conceded 12 goals in 3 games and therefore cannot be exempt from critique.

the fault for three of the goals was the defence as a collective unit not the fault of any one single player we just couldnt clear set pieces even though they had worked on this
harrads goal there was noone to close him down and he had a free shot

by all means criticise danny youre entitled to your opinion no problem there
judge for yourself tonight on the league show as its a main feature

yes danny made a rash foolish challenge that was unnecessary that was the reason for the pen no problem stonewall pen and to be fair not something that weve seen too much inhis game hes tough but a clever player

the fifth goal he had not part in that was stanners fault

youre better argument is the one about systems and i think thats a fair point
id like to think we can play with a back four and not a back five as this would give us more options with the squad we have at the moment imho

Oh, I know we're defending poorly as a unit and the only reason I'm concentrating on Adams is because he's the one I'd want to make way longer term. IF we were to switch to a back 4 then there's no way I'd play Adams, especially in the 4-1-3-2 system you suggested in the "Now What" thread. That system leaves us with no wingers and makes it even more imperitive that our full-backs have the pace to fulfill both roles.
