jURY VERDICT ON NEW PLAYERS AFTER 2 GAMES

Postby parkyboy » Thu Aug 13, 2009 9:11 pm

Moss a definte improvement on Yates his reading of the game and backtracking is superb.
Wilson has edged ahead of Danny in attacking play and his crosses , not sure yet about back tracking.
Jevons and Crainey have made a big difference to our attacking skills compared with who they have replaced and will score the bulk of our goals this season .
Duffy is a find and sftill settling in to Div 2 football but we have to decide where his best position is to get the best out of him.
Haining is the star turn and will form a strong partnership with Jim.
They should all as the season go's on extract the best out of the rest of the team.

how can u give a Jury Verdict on the new players after 1 league game that we drew
& a cup game against far superior opposition, & a game where 2 new players didnt play
(jevons & winters)
:?:

i think it need 5 or 6 games before we can say if these players are any better than what we had
for the last couple of seasons

All of them are a step up from last years , i personally wish we had kept o carroll he , with jevons would have been a handfull and got 15 goals each imo, we have a good squad and will not go down!!!

All the new lads look good

My own verdict after only seeing the first home game against Hereford was that we're in for a very exciting and fruitful season with some of the finest football thus to grace the hallowed turf of Christie Park providing we can keep the injuries off.

Pointless topic after 2 games.

Here is my verdict. I'm jet lagged city and watching some ESPN channel on Sky. England vs Holland from Euro '88 is on the TV. How crap was football 20 years ago? Seriously, the standard is appauling. I doubt any of the 88 England team would be good enough to play for a current Premiership team. All I hear from my dad is "in my day I could go to the game, get a programme buy a bagde, have a few beers and still have enough change to buy a bag of chips for the way home" etc. But was the football really this bad? I'm told ESPN do these classic matches channel all the time.

The next time some balding chap gives me a lecture about how football has gone down the tubes I'm going to ask him to sit through a game that he thought was amazing back in the day. The standard of football has improved dramatically from what I can see.

Will Haining is the type of intelligent defender we've been lacking for a while...you can tell he is used to playing at a slightly higher level. Will bring out the best in Arts and Jimbo when he is alongside either... :D

A bit too early to judge overall for me, but if we continue to play to our strengths ie on the ground then we should be a match for any other team in our league.

Forget the PNE result. We won't be playing teams like that every game and in many ways the 5-1 result has come at the right time in the season to rectify the problems that are there.

I've said it before, but PJ needs somebody to work off. It's unfortunate that O'Carroll wasn't given the opportunity to play alongside him. From what I saw of him he had the abiltiy to hold the ball up and bring other players into the game.

I agree I liked O'Carroll He wasn't an out and out goal scorer, which is what we needed the season he played, but he would've been great alongside someone who is He was only young and obviously had talent because he came from the Celtic academy It would've been nice to see him with PJ but oh well! hopefully we can bring in a striker today and have him ready for tommorow if not then que sera sera.

Too early to judge but you can see the quality this season already. Potentially really good but we still have to defend better and put those chances away. Plenty of time to iron those things out though. I just wish Duffy would take his man on more. He's got the ability. Fans still have to be patient though if results don't go our way imediately. Missed a holding type midfielder against Preston. And the strikers are a bit thin on the ground. But with budget restrictions i think we have done amazingly well in terms of the squad available.

Duffy ive noticed defenders are now pushing him on his LEFT-FOOT when playing out wide right, so it's not so much of wishing him in my book.

IMO from what i've seen of D Moss he is too slow & cant defend & he doesn't take players on he loses possesion to easily 3 goals yesterday came from his mistakes
most of the goals in all the games have come from his bad defending, what did Shrewsbury see in him, come to think of it what does Sammy see in him , actually he most have noticed something because he didnt come back on in the 2nd half he was replaced by duffy
Wilson on the left isnt much better( well what to expect coming from a team that were relegated)
something needs to be sorted asap before we are looking at playing BSP at the new ground

rant over

Opinions , thats what makes life so interesting and football opinions bring the best and worst out of people at times especially the players , it all depends on mood, the opposition ( and yesterdays wasnt good) .But everybody deerves chances to bounce back , how many i suppose that depends on the manager, bosswife or friends, but i am convinced 90% of this team will get it right very quickly
