Some interesting formations that tend to rely very heavily on midfield contributing with more goals than in previous seasons.

Just 1 recognised striker in Jevons. Not sure that that will work as Jevons prefers working off a big target man.

Personally i still think we need an out and out box player with a bit of muscle to rough up the opposition.

Roche
Duffy Artell Bentley Adams Wilson
Stanley Drummond Craney
Taylor Jevons

With Drummond possibly out for the start of season I'd put Duffy in midfield and Moss at right-back, and McStay/Parrish in for Jimbo if he's not fit.

Assuming all fit

--------------Roche-------------
Moss----Bentley----Artell----Wilson
---Drummond---Craney---Stanley---
------------Duffy-----------------
-----Twiss-------------Jevons---

I think Mark Duffy deserves a place in part because of what I've seen of him but also reports from pre-season training which are excellent. The only problem is up front both Twissy and Phil Jevons are both naturally left-sided.

This formation would allow Moss and Wilson to push forward when they get a chance and Drummy and Stanners to cover if needed.

It feels terrible leaving out Danny Adams but I just don't think he's got enough pace for a back four especially if Moose plays too. However Lawrence Wilson to me is a better wing back than an out-and-out full back so its still a difficult one but with the quality of outfield players you could only drop a striker to make a 5 at the back.

I also don't like leaving Neil Wainwright out who was fabulous when he got his head on in the second half of the season.

Nice position to be in though.

People kept posting that we didnt have the pace to play 4-4-2 , but i think playing 5 at the back is too defensve and when as the auther said " excluding injuries " i would back my team to beat any of the above - : ;)

Moss Drummy Jimbo Wilson

Five at the back is only five at the back when defending. With two decent wingbacks it becomes five across the middle when attacking - with at least one of those wide men acting as a winger. I think it offers good flexibility, IF you've got the players to make it work. In the past we've played with four in the middle but, because two of those were often more attack-minded players like Baker, Thompson and others, it left us short in central midfield.

I like to have three men in there to keep us from being over-run and 5-3-2 (or 3-5-2) allows you to do that and still have width. Duffy is the conundrum, though and it will be interesting to see how Sammy plays that one.
Is the glass half full or half empty? Mmmm? hard to say - but it does look like there's room for more beer!

But if you remember Glen , when Thommo and Baker were here we were playing more attractive football and scoring more goals . Last season we were far too slow in going forward and not scoring enough from open play as the opposition had time to get back and be organised . So when we have a centre- half who can pass the ball on the Floor to a couple of midfielders with pace who have the option of a couple of wingers with pace or striker with pace , surely we can create more chances, play more attractive football, score more goals and bring in bigger gates . Simple really . ;)

The good thing about either formation picked is that both look very strong, with the 3-5-2 we finally have 2 quality wing-backs who can be devastating but both have the pace to get up and down the field without leaving us exposed. With the 4-4-2 we have the creativity in midfield in Craney/Duffy/Wainwright etc along with support from the fullbacks to create chances. With Jevons upfront we have someone with enough quality to find the net with what should be improved delivery to the strikers. I expect a slow start to the season with the new faces but we'll be extremely tough to beat no matter what.
Get over it ;)
