Trialists released

Trialists released

Postby Christies Child » Wed Jul 22, 2009 5:17 pm

All the trialists with the exception of Larkin and Doherty have been released.

Larkin will be given games to prove he's worthy of a contract according to Mark Lillis.

I would assume the same applies to Doherty.

Am suprised that Hudson has left, but the signing of Craney more than compensates for the departure.

The centre half from Torquay had competition for a place from the regular 3 plus the lad from Oldham is a better long term prospect. Looked composed last night.

As for Chadwick, I expected greater things of him but obviously didn't fit the bill and with Jevons coming in he was always going to be surplus to requirements.

However will the departures stop there? It's quite possible that some existing squad players may be available for a loan move. :?: :?: :?:

Dont think it should stop there.

Not really sure who should be going but thinking about the budget we have too many midfielders - a luxury that a club our size cant afford.

Well i would agree with that because Larkin deserves another chance after his performance against Burnley and Doherty looked a good player last night against Kendal, excellent first touch and a good turn of pace that he is not afraid to use.

Cant say any of the other trialist's really impressed me to be honest.

From that list it would be Curtis, Wainwright and Duffy. They aren't midfielders ;)

Fraser is withouth doubt the worst from them for me, however when he plays he does allow the others more freedom and does the dirty work for us so tough one.
Thought Parrish was truley awful at centre half sat, now considering 5-3-2 is a major possibility come the 8th and seeing as we have Moss, Wainy, Duffy and even Mcstay all capable of filling in at RB or RWB. He would be one id look at flogging.
Decent right back but he wont get a look in there unless injuries struck.

Might it be worth trying Curtis to play up front with Jevons? He's a big lad after all and can hold the ball up.

Curtis is not qualified at L2 level, it's like employing a labourer

The thing is they all bring something different to the team, Wainwright and Duffy are primarily wide players, Curtis striker come wide player, Craney attacking midfielder, Hunter and Fraser defensive midfielders and that's something we cant do without then there's Stanley and Drummond who are pretty much straight forward central midfielders, so on reflection i want to keep them all

I'd loan out Stanley, always trying to pass the ball sideways or backwards.

I'd give Hunter a short term loan to get back to match fitness and have him back for christmas. Looked out of sorts at the end of last season.

Suprised at Curtis being mentioned on here. Hes a true work horse who never gives up the fight. Can play upfront as well as midfield - a massive bonus at this level with a small squad.

That won't happen. Stanners has come back looking even stronger than when he was playing excellently before his injury.

He doesn't like to waste a ball and in pre-season there hasn't been much in front of him to pass forward to.

We'll have to agree to disagree but I still don't think there's any way he'll be loaned out and I think he'll be a big player this season.

I have to agree with Shrimper,Stanners was playing some of his best football for us till he got injured,he's come back stronger so no chance of letting him go.Has anybody said we have to let players go?

There are folk on here quick to have a go at our defence. But when you have midfielders putting them under unnessacery pressure. You have to look at the bigger picture. Although must admit you get a differnt view of players from the car wash than the lofty hights of the north stand.

Stanners is one of the best midfielders in league 2 and his name will be one of the first on the teamsheet each week.

Ian Craney can also play as a striker.

Incidentally whats happened on the club website main page to the reports of the 2 signings ?

This has to be a joke, Right?

A guy I work with, Glen Steel, was actually playing against him on Tuesday night for Kendal and he was raving about how good he was.

I know its easy for us to make decisions about players from the stands, but to have that appraisal from someone who actually played against him speaks volumes in my opinion.
