Should be re taken if the ref saw the infringement of the penalty area, if not, the goal stand's as the keeper is allowed to score.

The goal is disallowed.
An indirect free kick is awarded against the player who infringed(attacking keeper).
If the ball would have gone straight in, the kick would be retaken.

When can a substitute replace a player who has been sent off?

He can't. If he's already been sent off then he can't be replaced.

But a sub can replace a player who then commits an offence on his way to the dressing room and THEN gets himself 'technically' sent off.

That would count as a suspendable offence but his side would still have 11 on the pitch - is that what you're getting at?
Is the glass half full or half empty? Mmmm? hard to say - but it does look like there's room for more beer!

Then, sir, you have me stumped. Assuming of course you mean 'replace' as in come on in place of a person to maintain the same number on the pitch.

I'm guessing this links in with Steven Drench in the York game, should have been sent off, went off injured and on came Scott Davis and the rest is history.

Can't be that. In that case he wasn't sent off, so Davies wasn't replacing someone who had been sent off, which was the question.

And the 'keeper' bit isn't correct either. When a keeper gets sent off, they often send on another keeper - but to do so they have to take off an outfield player and it's him that is being replaced, therefore.

Again, I'm pretty well up on the laws of the game (not an expert but with a reasonable working knowledge) and this one has me foxed. I don't want to google it so, come on someone, let's have it.

It's nothing to do with the Drench scenario.

AH! Okay doh! - is it if the player is sent off for an offence (say hitting an opponent) BEFORE the game has kicked off (ie in the tunnel).
