Your Formation, Squad & Bench (Excluding Injuries)

Roche
Moss McStay Jimbo(injured) /Artell Adams

Wainwright Stanners/Drummy Duffy Wilson

Larkin Twiss/Curtis

If you ask me, excluding strikers at the moment, (not taking into account that one of our trialists could be a gem) that looks like a very strong starting 11. Possibly the strongest starting 11 I've seen as a Morecambe team. We have depth on the bench in players not even mentioned such as Fraser, Hunter, Taylor etc. Personally i've always favoured 4-4-2, what would your prefered formation be with our present squad, feel free to take it further and add in potential strikers that we could sign to fit your formation.

This could be a very good season, we are due a season without a bunch of injuries for once so with a consistent starting 11 to gel together we could put a string of results together early on and see us in the top half.
Get over it ;)

Or

Roche
Moss Artell Adams Wilson

Stanners Drummy Hudson

Duffy

Chadwick/Twiss & Larkin/Taylor/Curtis (perm two from those five)

Duffy floating in behind front two, drifting to whichever wing he feels like.

I like ezz s team the best,

we would be very difficult to beat with 14 players on the pitch even if jim was injured

Hudson's a must for me.

He's the midfielder who can score goals and my info is that he's got a tremendous free kick / shoot at goal ability.

Soooooooooooo...Shrimper's team it is for me with Larkin and Wayne/Aaron alongside (assuming we fail to bring in a proven and regular goal scorer ;) ;) ;) )

I agree with marky but with Artell to start instead of McStay and McLachlan to start instead of Hunter but would have Hudson in there instead of both of them if he signed.

Don't have a clue who is going to start up front but wouldn't want it to be any of Taylor, Curtis or Twiss.

So Duffy doesn't get a start for either of you then? He would for me.

Duffy doesn't really fit well into my preferred 3-5-2, Shrimper. If we don't manage to get 2 new strikers then I'd probably play him in a 'free' role alongside another striker.

If playing in a 5-3-2 type formation, Duffy could play where Twiss was (behind the front two and just in front of the two centre mids) but could have a free role and stray onto either wing.

I'd thought of that as well but the balance was that I wanted Duffy in somewhere, I think he can occupy markers and open up defences. If Bents is fit then I'd put him in and drop one of the other midfielders in your (and my) preferred formation (Drummy or, if we sign him, Hudson - I think we need Stanners' energy).

I still think that could work because I reckon Moss and Wilson will be able to cover their flanks slightly better than Yatesy and Wainer.

Nice to have options, though, eh?

The squad is looking really strong, it is true that the standard of league 2 will be much higher this season and was worrying earlier on but it looks like we've adapted to the league and the market well so far, all that is left is for Sammy to find the cherry that goes on the top with a striker that's going to score. The point of my thread in getting people to write out their preferred formation was to show that we have plenty of depth and options available now, which is a credit so Sammy and the team and the squad they have built.

Not so sure that's true. A few clubs have strengthened a bit but some have lost a few decent players and others have had to cut budgets so will be weaker and with a bit less ambition as a result. I think if, as you say, we can get the last piece or two of the jigsaw sorted we'll do pretty well.

In that, I'm thinking Stanners will be back to supplement a team that played well, generally, in the latter half of the season - and I think Duffy will be a revelation.

Looking at the teams that came down you'd think Northampton would be looking at a top 3 finish but nothing is guarenteed, not sure if they have lost any of their bigger names. But the teams that are smaller like us but manage their money well will also have acquired talent. Bury look strong etc along with many other teams. I don't know why but I keep feeling that 'conference' vibe about this season where we were always challenging for at least a play-off spot..........maybe i'ts just been too long since the end of last season :D

Not much talk about Wainwright. He was outstanding towards the end of last season.

Spot on in my opinion apart from id prefer Chadwick to Larkin.. better pedigree. I really hope we sign Hudson. We havn't got a striker that can make a chance out of nothing like Rene could. We need a creative, forward thinking CM combined with Stanner's energy.

I missed him off as injured for start of season and I think has been replaced by Wilson in the starting 11 now...

Will be usefull cover for the two wing-backs though

I think we could rotate Moss and Wainwright. If playing at home and we need to get crosses into the box, play Wainwright. If we need to keep things firm/concentrate our offensive efforts down the other flank, play Moss. We'll have plenty of tactical options.

Bump, now it looks like our summer signings are over, add the new players in and think up the formation you'd play first game of the season.

How about this:_

a 4-3-3 turning into a 4-5-1 when we need to defend.

Roche

Moss Jimbo Adams Wilson

Stanley Craney Drummond

Duffy Wainwright

Jevons
Eintracht Branschweigs answer to Shrimps Voices

Everyone fit (and assuming no more signings) that would be a good alternative to:

Roche,

Moss, Artell, Bentley, Adams, Wilson

Stanley, Craney, Drummond/Duffy,

Twiss, Jevons

Which is what I think the starting line-up would be.

As I say that assumes no more signings. I reckon we've signed all we will sign now UNLESS someone appears on the radar who is either: too good an opportunity to miss out on and available; or is a youngster we could get on loan at little cost.
