Evidently it IS only subject to a medical and the player has had no injury worries to speak of for a few seasons so 'should' be a formality.

So, as confident as you can ever be about these things......

A new left wing back type player then, I was starting to worry about our left side of defence.

However I thought we were only after strikers at the moment I hope this isn't going to use the budget up for bringing two strikers in.

P/T

That was my concern as well but I think the discussions the club had with the league after our embargo last season may have given a little bit of leeway.

Rest assured - from conversations I've had - we are still very much in the hunt for at least one, hopefully two, strikers.

If we can't get them in on contracts then we will look to bring in loanees. After that's done, the board and the manager are quite happy with the squad.

Sounds like he's exactly what we need.

I was worrying about what Sammy was going to do with that side of the formation.

I certainly hope this player signs as we're desperately in need of a left-sided player!

Look what Shrimper said a few weeks ago:-

"Had we gone for someone like Laurence Wilson (sorry to keep banging on about him but I rated him, unless his two games against us were isolated occasions of excellence), then we could have used two wingbacks."

And, needless to say, I am delighted by this signing. If he turns out to be no good I will happily hold my hand up but I don't think it'll happen.

Good solid defender, genuinely left-footed, has a bit of pace, a lot fo skill, hits a nice cross/free-kick, already got good League experience and is only 22.

Now a couple of strikers (IF....etc) and we're looking like having a decent squad with strength all round.

But was it prophetic or inside knowledge? ( if the former then shrimper clearly knows his onions - like I didn't know that already)

Good signing though. Just the strikers now and we're done. I don't know about you but I'm already excited about this season. Can't wait for tonight.

Agreed I think it will be a good signing the defence now looks quite good with him and Moss been added.

The midfield is ok as it is so just some people up front would be nice.

I was convinced we were going 4-4-2 when we signed Moss but now I am not so sure as this lad sounds like he would make a good wing back.

I agree, Glen. He certainly stood out for me in our matches against Chester. Looks like a quality signing and hope he settles in quickly! 8-)

I think Danny Adams will be more of a back-up player next season to help nuture some of the younger defenders?
Back 5 of....

Moss___McStay__Bentley__Artell___Wilson

with Adams and Parrish backing up across all of them (McStay could switch to the right for instance then Adams comes in at the centre etc)

Really good signing for us this, well done to all concerned in getting this young but experienced player in. Was an area of the field that was a worry.

They released him from his contract so they wouldn't have to keep paying him, as I understand it, and so he could find another club. So he hasn't cost us a fee to Chester.

I didn't have any inside info on Laurence until very recently (certainly after I made that comment). I thought we were only looking at strikers - though this does make a lot of sense.

Wainer is not naturally left-footed, Danny isn't getting any younger and neither Twissy nor Wayne are naturally midfielders - and it's not their preferred positions.

Wilson gives the whole squad a lot more flexibility now for various reasons.

Like John L says he (as well as Lowe) was the stand-out Chester player for me when we met them last season. And their fans rate him as a very hard-working and consistent player as well.

Good fitness record and sounds like he's no trouble off the field either.

I still think Adams will start but with Wilson playing in front of him. Wainer may switch to the right (when he gets fit again) or may be on the bench to bring on as an impact player (IMO).

If either of the centre-backs is injured it also gives you the option of moving other players (Danny, Mossy) about and still have good wingbacks.
