Pre-season training update Monday 13 July

Postby Christies Child » Mon Jul 13, 2009 1:29 pm

A total of 26 players made up of squad members and trialists were being put to the sword by a specialised fitness coach who I believe has worked with Sammy in the past. Excluded from the main group were Jimbo, Wayno and a new trialist who were doing specific running routines. Along with Neil W the total on view was 30.

Neil W was ploughing a lonely trail around the outer edges of the training ground in an effort to recover from his injury. Speaking to Neil during a planned rest period he is frustrated that he can't get involved with the main squad and only hopes that he will be able to get involved before the begining of the season. He and his family have settled well into the area with his children are now placed in local schools.

Sammy and Mark were deep in conversation whilst Dickie Danson was supervising Jimbo and his merry band. Geoff Udall the reserve team manager was also there looking on at who could be under his managerial regime in the weeks to come. Also in attendance was the usual specialised goalkeeping coach.

As for the trialists names, sorry but I haven't got a clue. Although a couple who were with us last week still appeared to be there. Maybe we'll get to know more tomorrow night.

From my observations over the last couple of sessions and comparing those with this time last year, there's no doubt that this years pre-season is a bloody sight harder than last and may be an indication as to our intent to start the ne season as we finished last season.

Alison Taylor in her role as Physio was looking after any injured players of which I'm glad to report that there appears to be very few which is unusual but maybe a tribute to the lads in maintaining a level of acceptable fitness over the close season.

Any confirmation about who the trialists are has to come from Sammy or Mark. Names are given sometimes in confidence to a variety of individuals and that confidence should not be broken by going public.

The trialists I would expect are for a variety of positions including I assume much needed strikers. No doubt tomorrow v Burnley things might be a bit clearer.

Sorry I can't help.
