Burnley crowd problems?

Burnley crowd problems?

Postby Christies Child » Mon Jul 13, 2009 7:12 am

With Burnley expected to bring a minimum of 2000+ to the game, I hope that there will be no problems with regards to crowd safety. Although they have been allocated both the Umbro and the Car Wash terrace what happens in the event of both areas being full to capacity?
Are there plans in place to cope with such a situation? Is there a system in place to indicate that the Umbro can take no more?

With it not being all ticket the potential for problems is certainly there.

I'd hate for us to be responsible for any serious incident.

I'm probably being an alarmist, but..........

If I was a club official or security and safety officer I would possibly find the above quite offensive and take issue.

Tony and his team are nothing less than professional and do a fantastic job. There is no reason to believe that there may be any scenario that they havent thought of and have contingency for.

What your concerns might do is put people off coming and deprive the club of income. It also makes us look very unprofessional for anyone from Burnley looking on here.

Now, I do hope that Les has used the right amount of starch in the washing. I hope that they have used the right amount of pepper in the pies, I hope the lads remember to bring their boots and that the groundsmen have remembered to mow the pitch.

As i posted yesterday i dont think there will be more than 400 home supporters at tmw's game so i think the potential for any trouble will be minimal "hopefully"

When have I ever said otherwise?

If bringing a genuine concern for crowd safety is regarded as offensive then I'm genuinely sorry. That was not my intention.

This is an alarmist post -FFS Neil keep some of your comments to yourself - I'm sure the club have aimed off for this and to be honest with you pre-season friendlies do not bring out the trouble makers - they cant be bothered.

We at the York have got our security sorted out for the night - we are welcoming both Burnley and Morecambe fans but will have to put a stop to entry when the numbers reach our fire safety limit.

BTW - You can book up for the Preston and Burton away games if you come in

Seem to remember playing Blackpool in a pre-season match and their fans were trying to climb over the fence to get at home supporters.

However it is highly unlikely that there will be any problems and people are right that we shouldn't be scaring off home fans who might want to come. If at all possible though we want to keep Burnley fans out of the home areas. By the same token we don't want to overfill either the away end or the Carwash Stand.

I am sure the club is in touch with the officials at Burnley and if they are likely to bring over 2000 they will work-out where they can be accommodated safely. Maybe extra seats in the Main Stand and the area at the other side of the players' tunnel?

Should be a decent crowd of over 3000 whatever happens. :D

I think there will be considerably more than that wanting their footy fix. If they pick and choose their pre-season games, this will be one they'll choose.

I hope so shrimper, but i think the lack of transfer activity and the loss of the players that were allowed to leave wont help things

I think a couple of 'exciting' signings may well have bumped a few more onto the gate but I still reckon people will turn out for this one - it's never like a proper game attendance wise but I'd reckon at least twice your assessment of home fans.

(Or that may be just because I'm gagging for some live football and assume everyone else is!!)

When have I ever said otherwise?

That's actually quite correct, you've not said otherwise however the fact that you have questioned the club's ability to handle the game shows you have little or no trust in them.

what happens in the event of both areas being full to capacity?
Are there plans in place to cope with such a situation?
Is there a system in place to indicate that the Umbro can take no more?

Think about how you'd feel if someone publicly questioned whether you were ready and prepared to do your job this week.

I should think there will be 1000 + home fans. The fact that it's Burnley, a premiership side, will bring more along to the game. Plus it's our first pre-season friendly, and many like me will be itching to see some football action.

On a lighter subject and one that I hope wont cause offence, there will be a Training Update later. :) :) :)

Abbo. No one is having a go at Neil personally. This is a discussion board. When you post a view on here (especially a controversial one) there are always going to be different or opposing ones. That is the nature of the board.

Personally, I don't hink the original post was constructive or well thought out. Do we really think our professional security officer has not considered the implications and conducted a risk assessment? IF I was a new fan or neutral considering coming down and spending money at the gate, I would think twice and avoid if I thought there may be trouble or the club hadn't considered or prepared for every scenario.

Like I said, not personal, just a different viewpoint.

A game cannot take place without a risk assessment and security officers from both clubs are in contact long before a game to discuss any issues either of them have. The police also provide input to any decisions about ground allocation, etc. This has been going on since early days in the conference and discussed many times on this and previous forums, for example;

Stewards have a difficult job to do, but to tarnish ALL fans from the opposition as if they are mindless idiots bent on trouble is simply wrong.
I believe that every fan deserves some respect until and if they step out of line.
