New stadium build schedule?

I took a look at the groundworks for the new stadium this afternoon and there has been a hell of a lot of earth shifted and crushed stone layed.

Does anybody know the build timetable and are we still on schedule?


The weather to date has been reasonably kind so I would have thought we are on course but not being a civil engineer I could be wrong.

Rod Taylor was on Radio Lancs this week and he said the final contractor would be appointed in the next couple of weeks.

I don't think so but if we are to move in time for next seaston it will need to be finished by about June/July ish

Don't think an exact completion date has been published but there will be one as part of the contract however Christie will be formally handed over to Sainsbury's in July 2010 and the new stadium opened prior to the 1st fixture of 2010/11 season. All depends how they get on throughout the winter weather but there is usually a bonus attached for early completion.

IF true, their major claim to fame includes the Imperial War Museum on Salford Quays development. A unique structure that one can't fail to have been impressed with once seen.

My understanding is that this firm has been appointed but have not yet been given the contract. Their bid for a 51 week build was alledgedly £8,000,000. The issue on relocating the North Stand was a non starter.

The new function facilty should bring in extra revenue but this will be the only addition as there are no expectations for the additional building phases in the next few years. This would imply that we may not have a huge increase in income as many have predicted.

Meanwhile I am more concerned in identifying at least 2 other teams who are guarranteed to finish below us this season. Although we had a decent season only fine margins seperated a number of teams and the manner in which Bournemouth exposed us should have been of serious concern for any manager.

Once up and running the biggest income should be the function suite We've been over this topic before so I'm not starting again but alot of people just don't realise how important this function is if managed correctly and how much money will be generated in this way. To cut along story short it will be more than our over spend each year by along way

Agree with you there Ned but we are going in the right direction. The primary concern is to get into the new stadium in 50 weeks time as a League Club

Nothing is guaranteed in Football. You could spend 3 million on the team this season and not get promoted

Welcome back Ned!

I'm sure somebody will correct me if I'm wrong, but revenue from the additional builds ie Hotel and Take Away etc have never been built into the projected income for the first year or so because each of these develoments is dependent on outside companies taking up the options on the land made available by the club in its overall development plan.


The club are not responsible for each build. All they are doing is making land available on a certain number of years lease and leaving the construction to the individual occupiers themselves. Income on a yearly basis will come from this arrangement.

I think the main concern is that we are still a football league club at the start of season 10/11 and given the squad we currently have i think that we may struggle to achive this, i have said in a previous post that there are some very good teams in our divsion this time around, could be a long hard season ahead.

Of course no one can 'guarantee' two teams will finish below us - a Nedism. However if I'd take greater than 50% I'd go with the following.

Aldershot - second season troubles
Burton Albion - hardly coming in on the back of a good run of form
Add to those Barnet, Macclesfield and Accrington Stanley.

The comments about the Bournemouth game are just a pathetic attempt to get a rise out of people. With a number of players and friends released before what was effectively a meaningless end of season fixture there were plenty of reasons for the performance. To my mind the result can be seen in exclusion to the rest of the season. Sad Ned is either not capable of seeing it or is just a wind-up merchant bent on seriously extracting the urine.

Good call on Aldershot, there form after Christmas last season was of relegation standard.

Whilst we have yet to bring in many players that improve the squad overall (Moss aside) I think that we already have the bulk of a solid and dependable side. What I'd like to see though, are a few flair players that gets bums on seats (though this is harder than it sounds, as Sammy has found out). Without them we're still capable of being a mid-table side capable of putting together long unbeaten runs.

I think we will be ok this season but I think Burton will do very well to stay up a one point lkast season they were running away with it but in the end they were lucky to stay up at the top of the table
