as I understand it all the money we make on the sale of Christie Paek is going on the new ground development

To my knowledge no one has ever said anything like that. Only directors would know the full extent of the club's finances.

The only comment that's ever been made by the club is that it will be 'debt free'. In my mind even this was a mistake in that it says that our financial difficulties are over, when it is very far from the case.

Everyone knows or should know that the reasons why we're moving to a new stadium is that our current ground doesn't generate the day-to-day match day and non-match day revenues to support a Football League club. As a result its safe to assume that the lack of revenue has been funded through other means, i.e. losses funded by directors.

I've said it before because I've been told some figures, and there appears to be no concerns over sharing it, that the club lost well in excess of £250,000 last year and will do the same again this year. In a best case scenario that's a loss of £500,000 in two years and likely to be much higher.

As a result, in order to just stand still, the new ground has to generate at least £250,000 in new income a year for the club to breakeven. As a result I very much doubt that a single penny of the Sainsbury's income will be used for anything else other than getting the best possible facilities at the new ground from the amount of money we've got.

Rumour is that its a conference club so I think its almost certainly York.

might be Luton. They offered £30k for Gash before we bid £42k.

I didn't think York had a pot to p*ss in. They offered £10,000 for an Ebssfleet player which was rejected by the members. Also they would have the same problem as us persuading Southern players to re-locate North.

To pay money for a non-league player of the calibre of Gash is questionable, but the amounts being bid are obscene. I'm glad our bid of £42k was turned down, and pray we are not the club in for him at £80k plus a player.

Transfers of Kightly et al are ridiculous comparisions. All who have been menthioned to justify the non-league shopping basket have been highly regarded and widely recongnised as quality players at that level.

Gash has question marks over his ability; he only scored 12 goals last season, whilst a progressive conference club like Cambidge United rate him highly enough to get shut. It speaks volumes. Not good enough, at any price. This smacks of another Michael Carr, except we'd be even more out of pocket.

The members of Ebbsfleet have voted to accept the £80k offer.

it is now up to the players to agree terms with the un-named club.

Nonsense. A couple of the ones I mentioned went for several times what is being offered individually for these players, so the amounts being offered here are not ridiculous.

Morison was wanted at a £250,000 price tag, others have gone for various amounts in six and five figures.

Smith is described by Ebbsfleet as their real quality player and Gash has been pursued now by at least three clubs and both are among the three highest paid (so most highly regarded) players at their current clubs.

The amounts may be more than individual posters on here would like to see us pay for them, fair enough, but £40,000 for what managers consider to be a promising Conference striker who has clearly developed over the past season, is not silly money.

It may be a bit of a punt but young strikers who are strong and mobile are not ten a penny.

I think the point that Red Red Wine was trying to make is that people like Boyd, McLean etc were pretty much nailed on to be a success at a higher level whereas Gash has a very average record in the Conference and isn't regarded as one of the best players in that league.

Accept that.

But the fans of the clubs that bought them (for much more money IIRC than the fees we're talking about for Gash) will still have thought it was a lot to pay for them as - as the points I'm addressing have referred to - they are taking a step up and are untried at the higher level.

That's why I thought the comparison was a fair one - I was comparing relative situations, not saying Gash is a better player than Boyd.

A York City fan told me they are the bidders. If the deal comes off and with that sort of cash, at 33-1 for promotion they might be worth a punt.

We never usually announce anything until ther ink is dry. That suggests to me that they have already signed contracts but for obvious reasons it can't be announced until July 1st.

One of the Shrews fans said their full back had already signed for us.
