Pawel Abbott

Postby Christies Child » Tue Jun 23, 2009 5:06 pm

Darlington have confirmed that Pawel has left the club and signed for another club. Nobody is aware of who the club are as the club concerned have not released any details.

It's too much to hope that it's us.....is it?

Yes.

But yeah, is he not good enough for league 1? I'd be suprised to say the least if it was us.

Too much? We shouldn't even be thinking it. He's after £2,500 a week.

Not as daft as it sounds.

We let 3 strikers go. Howe who it was reported that we were paying a fair whack towards his salary , Matty Blinkhorn and Dermaid O'Carroll who certainly wouldn't be on bobbins. We are told by Sammy that he is looking for 2 strikers presumably because we have Taylor , Wayne and Mr T who can all play as striker. Therefore 3 wages going off the striking budget to be replaced by 2 strikers on higher salaries.

The club cannot afford to be in a relegation scrap and quality strikers would help to avert this.

Abbott will be wanting about £2500 though. I think that amount will take up all the budget left over from the three strikers that have left on its own. If not, it still doesn't leave much for a second striker.

And if you want decent strikers you have to pay decent wages, the new season is going to be massive, the last thing we want is for the club to be in the conference when we go to the new stadium.

We have to trust the board on this one, they have never let us down .

In our 88 years at Christie,we have never been relegated.
The board would NEVER let it happen.

And if we dont get a decent forward line we may need to shore up the defence

I thought Abbott would have eventually ended up with Penny at Oldham.

Won't be coming here. Those that thought so are seriously deluded. £2.5k a week is miles out of our league. Besides, £130k on one player does not offer us value at this level. For us to pay such high wages on one player is also a massive risk, especially in the case of Abbott who has a long injury history.

But look at the money that clubs have spent on him. the guy is a proven goal scorer and as i have already said you pay for what you get

Not doubting his ability, but how can you balance the accounts? We already lose £250k a year, operating on the generosity of the board.

The only way you could justify (as eluded to above) spending so much money on one players contract is to use the wages that we spent on three or four players, on a single player such as Abbott.

However, despite quite a large squad we were quite thread bare in terms of squad members last season due to one reason or another. This is a massive risk, one which I don't think we can afford to take. Besides, I don't think such a massive discrepancy between the earnings of one player to the rest can be good for morale of the team (our major strength last season) as a whole.

Rene Howe was rumoured to be on £3k but we were only playing half of that

What are tonights lottery numbers going to be?

I think soon as Darlo had there troubles and Penny moved to Oldham it was always going to happen. No chance of him coming here.
