For more clarity, could you say which party he was a member of when he was elected in 2003 as a County Councillor?

Yes he was elected as Labour and defected to the Conservatives, but only after he'd been deselected by the membership who didn't think he'd done a particularly good job ( which kind of proves your point Michael)

One can only hope that the good people of Morecambe can cut through all the national rubbish and elect or indeed re-elect county councillors who are capable of doing the job with energy, intelligence and honour, whatever party they are from.

As I understand there has been no dialogue between local companies and local authorities specficially on retaining a food processing operation in Morecambe by 2 Sisters. At the moment it is highly likely that is the end of the company in Morecambe and with it at least 160 jobs.

Some will be pleased at the end of the smell, some will be pleased about 'a load of foreigners losing their jobs' (don't get me started). I'm just thinking about the effect on the local economy, the loss of tax revenues, benefit claims etc. which over a 5-year period would have paid for at least three Winter Gardens plus the change.

Spoke to someone last night who used to work at the local factory. She said the company or the council didn't want "it" there anymore! so job sorted! Shame about the jobs though.

If it hadn't been for the fire it would still be open and maybe we'd have got round to talking to them about the smell but there was no campaign to get it closed. Am I glad the smell won't be hanging around any more, yes. Am I glad 160 people have lost their jobs with the knock-on effect on the economy, am i hell.

Next time you see your neighbourly manager, ask him why the insurance isn't covering a rebuild. A question 160 locals would be very interested in knowing the answer to.

No guilt trip, no dumping. It's a positive for some people that the smell has gone. For those outside the wafting area the negatives will outweigh the positives.

The factory is gone. We should be focusing on what and how our elected representatives and their civil servants are doing to encourage the firm to re-establish the site at another location in the district. And that would surely benefit us all.

Yes it would benefit us all but knowing the capability of our elected representatives, we've lost 160 jobs.

They have the option of going to work at the factory in Sunderland or 3 months redundency pay.
