Why would anybody laugh? He has proved himself to be a very decent lower league striker since he left us.

Agree with BerlinWaller.

If DA fancies him then who are we to argue with the Boss.

  Has he? Apart from Gillingham where? Shrewsbury no more use than a chocolate fireguard, Bradford similar. 10/10 to him tho as he’s earning a lot of money for doing nothing but I agree if DA thinks he’s worth it then so be it

But unless Jason goes we ain't signing any proven striker.
I think that's the position we'll struggle in again until we get some stability as a club.

Answered your own question-Gillingham. He has played at L1 and L2 level since he left us and got some decent contracts. He deserved a better crack if it at our place, the management didnt do him any favours

Unless we have new owners willing to pump in a shed load of money, I think we'll be scratching around the level of Dackers really rather than someone like Vadaine. I believe Dackers has just been released by Salford - can't see any other L2 or NL league fighting to get him.

He played nearly every game for us for two seasons and scored about 5 goals in that time. Maybe he needed to play in a better team but he was given more than enough of a chance with us.

A definite No from me plus I’d prefer we didn’t rely on hoof ball

Yes I too hope we don't go with the launch it to the tall striker tactic

i thought Vadaine Oliver was alright. he’d of done a better job for us this year than Dakkers or Angol, Hope, Garner put it that way.

he was isolated upfront on his own, under Jim Bentley, and people go on about the football Derek plays, short memory's.

That is the difference with the lowest budgets and trying to not to lose.
Meanwhile Sammy Mac and Stephen Robinson played exciting stuff but blew the money.

Jim played so many players out of position :(

Oliver's a decent player if confident and used well. Absolute battering ram in the air.

I'd have reservations though as I never felt he was that great at making the ball stick like Stockton did - more of a flick-on/create a bit of chaos type. That said, I thought his hold-up play/touch looked better when watching him for Gillingham.

Other concerns are he'd probably command a decent wage still, and he's not too long recovered from a lengthy injury (albeit he did play a bit for Shrewsbury at the back end of last season).

I wouldn't mind if we got him, but there are probably better value options out there.

On Dackers - I wouldn't be horrified by having him as a squad player in the NL, but if we're in a similar situation to last season and reliant on him as our main No9, then that would not be great. Imo think he could do with a season or two in the NLN where he should be able to get a few goals and build up some confidence/work on that side of his game.

ABSOLUTLEY NOT.

He is possibly the worst striker I have ever seen at any football league side.
He can't score goals, and even though he is a tall striker, he virtually never wins any headers, he doesn't even jump. He can't play with his back to goal, he doesn't link up well, his technique is awful.
You might as well just put a tree upfront and it would be more use.

Obviously I'm not a fan of his.

I get the point turnbull-9 makes about Dakkers.

We might aswell of played defender Rhys Williams upfront for his hight and arial ability.

Like Alex Ferguson did with defender Steve Bruce when playing the long ball game.

I liked Dackers, thought he was improving all the time, decent touch and he gave defenders a scare. He could develop into an effective striker with some more experience!

I agree, there is a player in there. I was frustrated that he was clearly never a lone striker, but rarely (ever) played as part of a front three. He's got a good touch for a big lad.

So how did that work out then?

It's a no from me. One of our worst centre forwards ever. Beyond belief how he was given more game time than the striker we'd brought in from non league (whose name i've forgot)

Jason Oswell, i'm pretty sure we got a transfer fee for him off Wrexham like around the £50.000 mark?

not bad business for us.
