An article on the Visitor's web site says they'll have the results late today. Don't forget that the minimum 2 years this parish council can exist will cost local rate payers approx. half a million pounds. Every penny out of local pockets.

What pisses me off big time is there was no opportunity to oppose the creation of the parish council. 10% of the locals have imposed charges that 90% might not want to pay. Democracy?

Coun John Day, Lib Dem, said: "I'd like to thank everyone for coming and all the people who have worked so hard.

"I am the official opposition! I'd like to thank everyone who voted for me and I'll do my best for Torrisholme."

also got more votes than any other person elected.

I don't envy John Day :? The only non-MBI. Proof if it was needed that this Parish council will be nothing more than a pointless talking shop for the MBIs.

Well Done Evelyn
This lady is the most populist and well known lady in town--the result is a credit to her as oppose to electing a bunch of has beens and sad individuals.
I hope those who opposed her go away and retire--you are loosers--that includes you Mr Whitaker

JJF38, I'll drop you with a PM including my address and you can come and tell me I'm a loser to my face. I've tried talking to Archer and more recently Ashworth but they are both just rude and ignorant.

"I'm thrilled, but at the same time disappointed there were so many spoilt papers. Over the next two years we'll make people in Morecambe realise that we can make a difference."

Take the hint Archer, we don't want a parish council.

So 65% of people didnt turn out.

65% want nothing to do with it or couldnt care less.

If you add the people who turned out to vote and voted against the Independants to the people who didnt vote, I think it would be fair to say that over 75% of the people didnt vote for them.

So the very best guesstimate is that 25% of the local, voting population, Might, want a parish council, this means the majority of the people get something they do not want, a bit like a general election really, on another note, we did not even vote for our present prime minister, and our MP FULLY SUPPORTS HIM, AND THE COUNCIL OF PARISH PARASITES

21.16% of Morecambe voted for the elected MBIs.

0.38% of Morecambe spoiled their papers in protest

0.51% of Morecambe voted for the scarey Truth

78.84% of Morecambe did not vote for the MBIs

I voted, didn't spoil my paper and proudly voted for a neighbour and her extremely non-political associates.

you have not really made a point there.

a 35% turnout in a local election is probably a bit above the norm and 49% in Torrisholme is an exceptional turnout for a local election.

And some of us will still have the balls the keep trying to speak up for Morecambe's future not it's past. You may well feel comfortable in your cheap seat ( though with the luxury of nobody knowing who you are, presumably because you don't have the bottle to tell anyone on here including me) but it does not make your seat any less cheap. Sleep gently with the knowledge that you have the same level of courage that it takes to wave a union flag but not wear a uniform with one on.

And well done the MBI. 25 to 1 win is pretty comprehensive.

The problem for them is that if they cock it up, as they've done with the City Council, its pretty difficult to hide behind anyone else. Its your idea, its your party, you had better make a success of it or I'm sure things will change.

Interestingly the same people who voted in the parish election also voted in the county council elections yet couldn't bring themselves to back the MBI candidates in that vote. Proof surely that this is a one issue party that can't do anything on a wider stage.

Absolutely right. It's easy to get elected with populist policies, which are far harder to implement than to proclaim. Let's give her four years to get the Winter Gardens up and running, and let's say a development on the Frontierland and Swimming Stadium sites agreed. Surely that's achievable with such a majority?

To be fair, the 60+% that didn't bother could have put a stop to the farce so can't complain now.

The turnout may have been low but it was low for the County and the European elections to, with an estimate of 43 % turnout Look at the county results for Morecambe West and South which both cover the new Morecambe parish council

Morecambe South turnout was 34%
Thornton (Tory) got 31% coming first
Kerr ( MBI) got 23% coming second
Jowet (Labour / Resident First) got 18% coming third

Morecambe West was 24 %
Hanson (Labour / Resident First) got 25 % coming first
Walker (MBI) got 17% coming forth
Brown (UKIP) got 20 % coming second

What percent did any of the Resident First get in the parish council?
Looking at the results for the MBI .I would say most got over 50%.
The people of Morecambe who came out to vote voted the MBI in.
If you did not vote don’t complain

Very Very funny Clayton
You have made me laugh.
I am excited about the European Election results
I proudly voted for UKIP along with the Independent as well as English Democrats thus using my three votes.
It is a good thing to be allowed three votes in the European Elections
