Evelyn should do well tomorrow in light of the campaigning she has undertaken for our Morecambe Treasure namely the Winter Gardens. With the help of Geraldine Evelyn has truly secured the future of the Winter Gardens and in the long term the future of Morercambe.

Hopefully the Labour Party will get wise and deselect her!

It may be a scummy rag but the Sub Editor or whoever does the headline puns is very inventive.

There was Home Secretary Jacqui Smith donning a full Thunderbirds uniform complete with the little peaked hat and the headline "Blunderbird is go" !

These ministers caught out will do The Independent party and UKIP good tomorrow.
There is one thing for certain---there is not a single Morecambe Bay Independent Party Councillor who has claimed any inappropriate expences.
Evelyn Archer is certainly above integrity and that is why The Morecambe BaY Independent Party should duly do well in The Town Council Elections as well as The County Elections. This will stand us in a good light for the Local Elections in 2011 where we will take every seat in Morecambe and Heysham and that will enable us to break away from Lancaster--so I am told by a senior Councillor.

Cheap politics! to use the current expenses scandal and make out MBI Councillor's have not taken advantage and therefore have more integrity is complete propaganda!

Fact is that Councillor's don't have the opportunity to take advantage of expenses in the first place as they are not MP's!

It's the usual misdirection from these people:

We don't like political parties....except they are one and are in fact "celebrating" 10 years as a registered political party this year.

We wont claim any wages or allowances for being on the parish council...except there aren't any allowances for being on a parish council (you do it as a civic service) but they'd like people to think they're the only ones with that in mind.

Our leaflets are paid for by us and delivered by volunteers... where do they think the money to pay for everybody elses leaflets come from? and do they really think labour/tories/lib dems have any army employed to deliver leaflets. I can show you my blisters to prove otherwise.

They attempt to say where every £10 of your council tax goes....but have you noticed that it's last years figures so they have conveniently not mentioned the money you're paying for the parish council that they said wouldn't cost you anything

They have had a go at one county councillor for travel expenses when she had been on the cabinet and travelled round lancashire constantly and doing a 5 day a week, 12 hour day job at county hall. And by the way all allowances are decided by a neutral outside body (unlike parliament) and were published months ago. And they claim not to fight dirty. some politicians still have a sense of fair play and integrity during the campaign, but not them.

and then with no sense of irony whatsoever (and they accuse everyone else of spin  ) they go on to say - " look what the MBI's have done for us"

1. Regeneration - campaigned against urban splash and the M6 link and their leader is cabinet member for regeneration. maybe they think the only regeneration morecambe should have should be exclusively winter gardens centred.

2. coastal defences - not down to them at all.

3. sand on the beaches - ditto

4. midland hotel - refer back to them doing nothing but complain about urban splash

5. retention of morecambe town hall - fair enough, my former leader wanted to get rid of it, though the building still isn't fit for purpose and the costs are astronomical

6. tern project - OMG talk about credit where it isn't due.

7. New Promenades - refer to point 6

8. festivals - I think a certain SVer connected to Kalimba may have something to say about that

9. retention of the dome - well not really, and at a cost which hadn't been budgeted for which will now mean money being taken from other things like childrens playground maintenance

10. creation of a morecambe town council - I wont go there, just refer to gnasher's posts.

Democracy means that everybody gets to have their say even if you don't agree with it, and so it should be. It is the priveledge bestowed by past generations. I just would love to see politicians try and define themselves not by what they are against, but by what they are for. and especially when it comes to the MBI's I would love to see our local politicians to try stopping harping on about the past and say something about Morecambe's future. This town deserves nothing less.

rant over

Who knows mate. It's the easiest gig in politics to tell people how shit things are and then tell them it's somebody elses fault, especially foreigners. Personally I think it would be our utter shame if the BNP were elected onto morecambe parish council, and would be very disapointed if they got a Euro seat.

But you have to ask why are people voting for these other partys just not BNP but many of the other fringe groups as well as which especially this time there seems to be loads.

If the top 3 parties did their job in the first place these other parties wouldn't even get a mention.

Instead they are running scared of them and have to keep telling us not to vote for them instead of spending their time giving us reasons why we should vote for their party.

Isn't that called negative campaigning?

The Idle Toads are different from other councillors. The difference is this: we tell you what we're doing for you. We tell you through our regular newspaper, The Idle Toad

It's a shame Burple couldn't vote for them.

They must be popular they already held the seat and only the conservativ stood against them. The old Labour/Lib Dem coallation must have given up fighting them.

I always thought voting was a private thing? So why was my voting number written onto the the pad that the voting forms where taken from, which were also numbered? I know ALL politicians and party's are Honest and law abiding (   ) but with just a little cross referencing everybody's vote could be accounted for, or am i just paranoid?

Our results are just starting to come in

Heysham has gone from Labour to Tory by a majority of 774.

Morecambe South from Labour to Tory with a majority of 296 over the MBI but Labour who held the seat were way behind in 3rd 459 votes behind.

Nigel Brown the UKIP Cahndidate was an ex Police Officer who has very tradional family values and had clear beliefs for the area. He would have been a good asset to Morecambe.
We need people like Nigel Brown in control of the area as oppose to the poltical correct mentality that gets fed to us from Europe.

Labour only held on to Skerton (just) and Morecambe West, the Greens held their seat and gained one from labour (thankfully the CC have already said yes to the new road) everyone else is blue.

At least Gnasher will be pleased the MBI'd didn't get a look in

Does anyone know when the Parish results come out as that will make for more intresting debate on here.

It's so they can produce a thing called a "marked register" after the elections. Just so you can see who actually turned up to vote. There is no indication of how anyone voted, though I see your point that it could be possible. The ballot papers are held securely for a period after the elections in case there's an appeal and then destroyed.

Now the elections are over, here's a freaky story for you. About 3 weeks ago I was phoned up by someone asking if I was Gnasher off the forum. I thought seeing as they thought they knew who I was, I politely asked them to tell me who they were (seeing as they'd intentionally withheld their number). After 5 minutes of being told they were an independent candidate and they wanted to know what I meant by something I posted on here, they eventually admitted they were "Truth". I continued to politely insist they tell me who they were seeing as they knew both my nickname and proper name. I eventually got all the details but still refused to let them know what I meant. All the answers were out there, easily available and I found it quite funny that Truth hadn't changed, expecting everything to be handed to them on a plate.

At least now if I accidentally reveal Truth's name, it has been given to me by Truth himself. That's scarey ;)
Legally permitted to use "Gnasher" by DC Thomson's lawyers since 1999.
