I had a good day out canvasing yesterday for the MBI team. This is a team that certainly knows what they are doing. I also killed two birds with one stone becasue I was ably to canvase for The UKIP candidates as I am a member and get all thier materials. I am sure The MBI team will be supporting the UKIP with thier votes however it is up to them-I certainly will be giving the UKIP a chance. They speak with common sense and it has to be said, they do not live in cloud cuckoo land. We have an historic week ahead of us when we see the new Town Council elected. I look forward to Evelyn and her collegues getting to grips with the priorities for the area--mainly The Winter Gardens I would imagine.

Now there's a surprise. I wonder who owns the Winter Gardens? It wouldn't be Evelyn Archer, would it? I wondered where my money would be going.

If it does go to the Winter Gardens it smaks of money well spent becasue the majority of the people in Morecambe want the Winter Gardens to be brought back to its former glory as well as continuing to be a source of employment in the future.

I tend to have some sympathy with the MBI's.

IMHO if The Winter Gardens had been in Lancaster is it conceivable that they would have been left in the state they are for 32 years ?

This was partly due to some weak Morecambe Councillors not fighting their corner so hence a political vacuum that was filled by the MBI's.

I personally don't give a monkeys about " the winter garden's " knock it down and build a new building it's called progress. It would probably cost a lot less as well

It's already had £180,000 of our money in the form of a loan that was written off. Archer has proved what she is capable of with the Winter Gardens. It's still closed after more than 20 years, says a lot about her management skills and we expect her to run morecambe. God help us.

Jumping Jack, seeing as you have campaigned for the MBIs, any chance you can go back through this thread and answer some of the direct questions? Or are you going to do what the MBIs do, bury your head in the sand and ignore real issues.

It will never be brought back to it's former glory!

I would like to see it in new found glory, it is going to take some "serious" professional and
forward thinking people to achieve such a thing.
I doubt there will be second chances with this one. 'Break a leg', as they say.

How many second chances has the WG already had? If no one can get the plans and funding in place to have it open in, say, 2 years then they should admit defeat and walk away before any more of our money is wasted on it. I still can't believe the person resposible for the regeneration of Morecambe is also the owner of the WG. Conflict of interest or what!

Vote UKIP so that the UK can come out of the EU and follow a path of isolation. Watch Toyota and the remaining car manufacturing companies relocate to mainland Europe because they want to sell their products to the largest part of the European market. Laugh with gusto as the Australians point out that apart from importing their lamb & kangaroo meat, we have nothing to offer them any more (and Canada, New Zealand etc feel the same). As unemployment rises and what little manufacturing that is left, also leaves, UKIP will unveil the rest of their policies as they form and alliance with the BNP, which is no longer needed because the economic melt-down means anyone who wants a job is "going home" anyway.

And vote MBI too with their policies of... err... introducing more bureaucracy and... err... spending more money on a building that they've been spending money on for the last two decades without success and err... oh yes, opposing any development of Morecambe that may actually be successful (by-pass, Urban Splash, anything else that might come along...)

How about forming a 1950's party? You could have a great policy manifesto that appeals to a broad group of voters, like

    * Summer to last for seven months and rain banned during the school holidays
    * All manufacturing towns must have their holidays on different weeks, enabling the work force to have their time off staggered, ensuring the B&B's are full through out
    * Reduce unemployment in the town by building a pier
    * Bathing Beauty competitions at the open air swimming pool that Morecambe will need (see first policy)
    * Further reduce unemployment by manufacturing black & white TV's that will be issued to every household. The National Anthem to be played at close-down each night
    * All children will play in woods for at least 9 hours per day when not at school. That way they will behave and be nice to old people (apple scrumping will be an offence dealt with by a clip around the ear from a chubby policeman)

Oh yes...
    * Winter Gardens to re-open

There must be more?

 Parodies are always best when they ring very true and my god, the above certainly does! Leaving the EU would make us even more reliant on the USA than we already are. As a nation, we simply do NOT have the spending power to go it alone. The only way we can hope to compete with the likes of China and India is to work with our European partners. There are some issues I have with the EU, namely the fact that the European Parliament doesn't really have *that* much power, but being in it is better than the alternative of not. Have people forgotten the fact we only finished paying off our debts to the US a few years ago? Do you really want to go back to a time when we have to go begging across the pond every time we have economic problems?

do you really think that Countries in the EU would stop trading with us if we left the EU ?

as for Toyota etc switching production to Europe , it would be exactly the opposite as we would then not be bound by all the EU directives on working practices hours etc that are strangling businesses.

and we would also be able to fish our own waters after we withdraw from the Common Fisheries policy which sees big fleets of Spanish ships coming and emptying the fish stocks with the ridiculous practice of throwing dead fish back into the sea when you catch more than your quota.

Switzerland. The Danes are in the EU but are more eurosceptic than the British tend to be.

You don't think the EU would place an inport duty on goods from outside the EU, even if only to hammer the Brits and 'prove' to the other net contributers that it is not worth leaving? Even if they don't, as previously pointed out, the UK is a small country now, that can be come closer to Europe or more dependent upon the US. Over-all, I think there is more benefit to being inside the EU than out of it.

Incidentally, I think there are some crazy rules, such as the way fishing in European waters is regulated so I'm not saying it is anything like perfect. I would scrap the commission for starters, probably the largest quango in Europe, un-elected and not answerable to any elected body, it would be first to go if I had my way!

Evelyn Archer's name is on the deeds of the Winter Gardens. In the past she has had to opt out of council discussions because of a conflict of interest. And you're trying to tell me she keeps council and WG duties apart? Bollox.

The WG is also a good indicator of what Evelyn Archer is (in)capable of. How many years has it been closed? How much money have they raised towards rebuilding it? (You can knock off the written-off loan of £180K). And the person so incapable of re-opening a theatre, incapable of raising any non-government funding, is in control of our town.

The dedicated Chair of The Winter Gardens( Evelyn Archer) is to her credit a M.B.I stalwart and it has to be said that the majority of the Friends of The Wintergardens are supporters of The Morecambe Bay Independent Party becasue as everybody should be aware-The Morecambe Bay Independent Party are the only political party that cares and has secured the future of The Winter Gardens.

You need to give poor old Evelyn a chance- She has only had two years in the Cabinet and now is our best chance with Geraldine working in parnership with Evelyn. Geraldine is a genuine champion of the Winter Gardens and of Morecambe.

I don't know how anyone can speculate what great Britain would be like if we left the EU.
With hindsight would we have ever joined?
With hindsight would some of the other members have joined.
It's about power for some, and a gravy train for others.
I think there are many a European who would lynch their politicians and Euro MPs given half the chance.

Was in the newsagents today picking up my "Lancs Evening Post" and saw the "Sun" in the rack.

It may be a scummy rag but the Sub Editor or whoever does the headline puns is very inventive.

There was Home Secretary Jacqui Smith donning a full Thunderbirds uniform complete with the little peaked hat and the headline "Blunderbird is go" !
