It's official ~ Morecambe FC Has the Best Pies

Postby marky No.1 » Sat May 30, 2009 12:45 pm

Just had to start a new thread :D

NO QUESTION, TOM ATE ALL THE PIES

Tom Dickinson, a 22-year-old Bolton fan, is enjoying his first pie-free weekend in 10 months after a season-long tour of the 92 league grounds — and their catering facilities — ended at the Reebok stadium last Saturday. He began his odyssey in July in response to a pub challenge from a friend and hopes to publish a record of his experiences in a book entitled 92 Pies. Dickinson travelled to games in his second-hand Peugeot 206. ‘I calculated the mileage was greater than driving to Australia and back,’ he says. He wanted to finish his journey watching his favourite team and Bolton set aside 40 seats for Dickinson and his family to see their draw with Hull. So whose pies are best? ‘Morecambe’s,’ said Tom.

It is great publicity for whoever supplies our pies also. If they had their fingers on the pulse then I'd imagine they could make a few bob out of this.

Didn't we win a similar prize a few years ago?

I think the club could also push this. It is a funny story which I think most football fans who go to games will be able to relate to. Get a national newspaper involved, bring back this pie man and present the makers of our pies (who are they) with a trophy in the shape of a pie before a game. Give the club some national exposure. At least do a piece on the official website.

It's Potts' Pies that make our pies. I think I remember this guy taking some potts pies onto breakfast on BBC so there has been a lot of exposure already. Not sure if the Potts Pie man (Russel?) was interviewed as well.

In the last season at the crusty pie perhaps some publicity could be made from it.

We can't stand Potts Pies in this household. Sorry! Bought them once and we all said how awful they were. Best footy pie I have had this season was at Glossop North End. Just shows how we all have differing tastes.

You have to eat them fresh.
They don't travel well, or like being frozen.
I ordered a dozen once from the bakery on Bowerham Road.
Picked then up early in the morning.
Drove them to Hull.
Caught the overnight P&O ferry to Zeebrugge.
Drove through Belgium and Northern France to our house just west of Paris.
Froze the pies.
Following Friday got home from work.
Took the pies out of the freezer.
Drove them to Le Havre.
Got the overnight P&O ferry to Pompey.
Drove the short distance to our house in Gosport, and presented our two oldest kids with a dozen Potts pies.
They were shit.

Thirlwell's (Princes Crescent and Yarkshire Street) are much better anyway.

To be fair I don't think many pies like being frozen after they've been cooked.

The ones he's selling on ebay are uncooked.

Not as good as getting maple syrup and diet chocolate fudge soda from washington dc in the middle of a stack of reel-reel mag tapes
