Former Shrimps Thread

I feel this really is a tiresome debate. I disagree with a fair few things Bentley does but this whole Amond issue has been completely blown out of the water. This is League Two and we're a poor club. Decisions have to be made over players to keep etc and unfortunately, this one turned out this way. Are people seriously saying that Jim should have predicted everything? Amond has also been used on the wing at times at Newport, just to add.

I was sorry to see Amond and wish we could have kept him, but that's football sometimes. Bentley made a judgement call that few would have argued with at the time.

It's hardly like the alleged situation with Devitt and Miller. Also, I'm pretty sure I remember reading that the board were reluctant to sign Amond in the first place, and Jim had to fight to get him?

People always view this as a Redshaw vs Amond debate when the real comparison should be Barkhuizen vs Amond as Amond's departure was to make room for Barkhuizen in the squad.

I agree LS and when I posted the link about his selection for the full International squad it was more in a raised eybrow surprised mode than a dig at anyone at the club. Certainly never had him down as that calibre when he played for us (and I'm fully aware of the played out of position debate). At his next club Hartepool he was apparently atrocious but had allegedly downed tools at that point. I actually preferred both Barkhuisen and Redshaw to him and saw them as superior players.

He doesn't last long anywhere !

He seemed quite an exciting signing when we acquired him but turned out to be very disappointing.

I think he alluded to the travel time from his Stafford base to Morecambe and the M6 being a problem?

Left us and signed for ............. Barrow.

Geography obviously not his strong point.

From the Workington forum regarding Thommo and Jason Walker:

"Walker and Thompson big disappointments and too old."

"I wouldn't bring back Taylor, Walker or Thompson next season absolute waste of money."

"IS there something in walkers / Thompson contracted there they have to start a game put both on the bench for Tuesday."

"It's easy to blame Thompson & Walker for everything. But I saw 8 other players on the pitch yesterday who came out of the game with no credit. I haven't included Brad as he put a shift in. Getting rid of Walker and Thompson will make no difference."

Leif Davis back in favour at Leeds today. Named as a sub, didn't get on but obviously not out of the managers plans. Not bad for a former youth player of ours at a club on the verge of the Premiership.

Do we still stand to make anything from bonus payments?
